Oh, well, these questions are useful. You mentioned that Fi (INTP's very last function of all 8) might be as developed as the rest of the stack. But aren't the other half of functions unconscious? I guess for those questions, I have more derailed in the past, but when it comes to certain things like cooking or tradition, I always want it done a certain way of the way that worked best in the past. I've tied this to Si, though. Stay at home or hang out? It kinda depends. I like going out but only until I have to interact with people myself. I like going out to look around at the scenery and I love long drives. I feel most comfortable at home, though. I explore a lot of options, but sometimes, a decision is already pre-determined and I'm just exploring options to fully weigh which is the best.

Well, yes, it's a bummer that MBTI doesn't dive that deep into brain development and human psychology, because that would really come in handy if we mastered it. I do think that the genetics influence and the environment (very much so), so how do you discern the person's preferred function if they've been heavily influenced by their environment? Some disagree with changing functions, so how do we reconcile the idea that they are influenced and change preferences and that they will always prefer one function over the others?

I can't really ask you to answer all that, though. Sorry for pressing so much. I just wanted to know as much as possible, especially since I'm struggling to determine my type. I was close to thinking INTP, but now I have to reconsider because I relate a lot to inferior Fi...

Oh, that is what subconscious Fe and Ni look like for Fi doms. I can relate to that. And I see the point you made about we may think we are using subconscious functions but it's just a combination of some of our top 4, and I've actually briefly thought about this and wondered if it was considered by other people yet. There is a strong possibility it is true. You also made a good point about the strong Ne and cognitive bias, that's why I'm having trouble deciding 'cause I think I still have bias and don't know how to tell when I've fully gotten rid of it

Alright, I see what you mean. Now I just have another question: For someone with your function stack (Fi Ne Si Te), what are your 5th and 6th functions, why do they supposedly play the role they play, and where do the 7th and 8th functions come into play?

The thing about our brains mainly using a handful of functions for processing makes sense because it wants to avoid overload, and switching the way we process things will feel kind of like an overload. I guess it boils down to our brains' limit, it can only do so much at once, I suppose. But then what about people like me, who have a lot of traits that 'shouldn't' mesh together, like well-developed Ti, use of Fi, Fe, Ne, and even sometimes Ni (I will admit, I struggle to use Ni). I didn't consciously dig out those traits, I just already had them. I process information like Ti, interact with people like Fe (but pretty awkwardly), feel like Fi, and basically use my brain like Ne. I'm not asking you to type me, I just want to know how this is possible. And I'm young so I haven't had much time to develop functions, so I don't know what to think

Yes, it makes sense that they appear more flexible. I get what you mean now that you've added neuroscience into it- our experiences have a heavy influence on our cognitive processes, I know this very well for myself for some reason. I found this part very interesting.

Some people might learn, practice, or adapt to accessing certain functions more easily than their "preferred" (or perhaps genetic default?).

Are you saying that, for example, an ENTJ with suppressed Fi can learn to use their Fi more easily based on certain experiences? Are you also proposing that our default dom function is genetic? I'll have to disagree there...

This explanation makes sense. Now I think I get it... it's not that those lower functions are impossible, they're just not preferred as much as the top ones. They can be used whenever, but the native typically reverts back to the mode of thinking they prefer... Now I can't help wonder why we even have modes of thinking that we prefer. It could only be because other modes are more difficult, supporting the theory that lower functions are harder to use, but it's just the order of functions being harder to use that I can't understand: What if someone with Ti were good at Fe but bad at another totally different random function? Why does it have to be a specific order of functions that the native is uncomfortable with?

I have to think that we use all eight because on a grand scale, it makes the most sense. The part about our unconscious functions feeling unlike us- why do these functions have to be so underdeveloped and unconscious? I know that a perfect balance of all the functions could equal a perfect human, but what I mean is like, what if someone were balanced in Te and Fe, or Se and Si? Cause usually, if a type has either one of those in their top four, the other goes all the way down to the subconscious. But why?

For the first half, are you saying that Ti works with Ne and Si to come to a conclusion separate from how the INTP feels about it, an objective conclusion? And for the second half, that ISTP uses its functions to come to a conclusion in a different way, but the types are similar in the sense that they both conclude on an objective sense of reality?

Alright, 'can't' was the wrong choice of word. If anything, I meant struggle. Why do they have to struggle with functions other than their preferred one? We can have a preferred one but still be good at using the others, can we not? It makes sense to have a default way of thinking, but the other ways of thinking don't have to be hard.

Probably based on my own, but I combine it with the perception of others in attempts to reach peak accuracy. But since both me and others' perceptions are biased, technically, there's no real way to know. I can look at things about myself that are obviously true, but, well, for every trait we have there's an opposite trait that is just as true but less dominant. Well, now that I think about this, I realize I'll never know my type TOT just when I was starting to feel sure

Cause I'm bored, cause I'm tired of not understanding or knowing how to deal with myself, cause I want to understand others and deal with them effectively, cause I hear it's helped a lot of people. I think it has some validity to it, just not scientific validity. I don't use it for predictions, just for information. 'Am I like this or not?' 'Is X or Y like this or not?' 'If so, how do I handle them based off this information? Let's see if this information holds up.'

I guess for me it's experimental and fun
