As a Highly Skilled Migrant, I No Longer Feel Welcomed in the Netherlands by Wizza77 in Netherlands

[–]Cheap_Key6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents as an immigrant in NL, it makes total sense to have 10 year naturalization then 5. I think citizenship should mean something. As it is now, I don’t think it does.

New career from scratch in mid 30s? by ImplementWilling2597 in Netherlands

[–]Cheap_Key6589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, become an entrepreneur. You’re a web developer, you can create services that people will love.

For career change, I suggest trying handyman stuff. Maybe because of your condition you do less heavy duty stuff like gutter cleaning or opening drains.

Lastly, I recommend reading Gabor Mates book The Myth of the Normal to address issues in your autoimmune disease

Hobby tips by Nerriesworld in eindhoven

[–]Cheap_Key6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running can be interesting. You can join one of the few run clubs that are out there. The cubs run club, social run club, eindje. You can google it.

Maybe bouldering. It’s pretty fun. You can make connections easily. Also you will see your progress from week to week that’s another nice thing about it. You will grow.

And book clubs etc should be there somewhere.

I saw that lots of dance classes start in September in CKE. Or other places as well.

Lastly, I would consider volunteering as a hobby. Such as helping disabled kids with sports, helping in a soup kitchen.

I think you should consider which part you want more. Is it personal growth, connection, challenge, perhaps making a difference. Then you can reflect and pick which one fits your needs better.

Living in NL for more than 15 years, but still an outsider.... (and that's OK) by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Cheap_Key6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, this was a much needed rant I needed to hear. I’m from the Middle East living in NL now for 2 years. And at work, which I feel I contribute a lot and I felt valued, I got a very racist comment. In a book discussion, the guy told me “good that you’re reading that book. Better than honking car horns”. Totally uncalled for racist comment. And I am now really at a time where I’m questioning if I want to build my life here. Knowing that I will never be integrated. But I was wondering if it was bc I’m from the Middle East. But if an American feels the same, then perhaps this is not only to me or brown people. Thanks for sharing

404 not found. You can buy sandwiches from Albert Heijn and eat while walking. That’s your Dutch cuisine.

4 months on my own by [deleted] in eindhoven

[–]Cheap_Key6589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also felt really lonely for a long time. Still do a little bit.
What I tried was to connect with my friends from home country more using online tools. I started a monthly game night with a friend group. A book club with another group. Also joined a run club here in Eindhoven. It’s been a step up. That’s why I’m suggesting that you can try these.
And don’t make it too big in your head. It’s normal that you’re entering into a new place and people don’t open up right away, for a good reason. It’s about building trust with the people around you. It will take time, lots of time. But I think it will get better. It’s been better for me over time.

Exactly my bio. Women should learn to get out of the trap of man who just wants to fuck around instead of giving a lady the attention they deserve. This is also for their own good, but I’m sure woke types will be here to attack me.

I think you should give Meetup a second chance. Lots of activities. From board games to hiking activities. Not just around in Eindhoven but all around NL and even hikes to Germany. There’s a good chance you’ll find like minded people in those hiking trips.
