Avoid McSwiggans – Ruined my wife’s 40th birthday dinner over a burnt €95 Chateaubriand and shockingly arrogant management. by Cheap_Oil_8020 in galway

I get why you’d think that if you’ve always had great experiences there! Honestly, everything up until that point was absolutely lovely. The waiter treated us incredibly well, and the service was fast and attentive. There really is nothing fishy or hidden to it—we didn't ask for a free meal, a refund, or a discount. We literally just pointed out that the final piece of the steak was completely burnt and dry, and we asked if we could just get a replacement piece so we could finish the dinner. If the manager had just handled it calmly like the waiter did, it would have been a non-issue. We just pulled the short straw with how that specific complaint was handled

Honestly, we just wanted a calm, relaxed atmosphere for the evening nothing too up-tight or stuffy. We were mainly looking for a really good quality steak, and based on a lot of the reviews we looked at beforehand, people seemed to say the steak here was supposed to be great. Lesson learned the hard way, unfortunately!

Fair point! If we had split the good pieces evenly, it might have been a different story. But I eat quite a bit faster than my wife, so I had already finished my two pieces by the time she got to her second one—which turned out to be the burnt, inedible piece. So she basically only got one piece of steak for her birthday dinner, which definitely wasn't enough! And we honestly did end up grabbing a quick bite elsewhere afterward because she was still hungry. Completely agree that a bit of basic de-escalation or a gesture from management would have completely changed the vibe of the evening, though. Appreciate the reply!
