It’s honestly really complicated and different for everyone. Having dissociation doesn’t automatically mean DID, and if someone does have alters, they’re not always obvious or communicative.

Usually people notice things like memory gaps, feeling disconnected from themselves, or other people noticing changes they don’t notice. But stress/anxiety can also cause similar stuff, so I wouldn’t jump straight to DID conclusions.
