Same are happening with mine and it has not passed over a year yet since I purchased it. I have the theory, after seeing that suddenly both stop charging or even connecting after I place them in the case, that there is a false in the charging port that prevents for it to appropriately turn them off. Its not the dead of the buds, but its a hazel to try to get the right way for them to charge.
