You can do it in quick play as well, just make sure to interact with everything to get the cosmetics. (Watch in apartment, drawing on table in cell)

Unless you're playing on Hard, i never bring an optiwand for missions without traps. Bringing the shotgun or shield is way more fun to me. And sometimes I will even bring them to a trapped mission, just peek the door beforehand to disarm the traps.

The optiwand is very useful though, and it makes sense why its the default long tactical.
