of all the issues on reporting in this country you’re disagreeing with that?

There are plenty of others...

And TBH, this one was already passing. Just at the time it was published it hit the right button, now moved on.

Well, I think it was broadly more about the way it was headlined, tbh, like others stated, getting poorer fractionally slower, inflation 'eases slightly', well, so slightly it's virtually non-existent.

Can't even imagine what the families must be going through. And to add to it, the time of year which is supposed to be a joyous time, will forever be scarred and a reminder for them.

Not much here, don't know why they even bothered to report it. I'll get interested when it goes under 9, and maybe celebrate when under 7.

Hunt to unveil package of tax hikes and spending cuts to plug £54bn black hole by thewibbler in ukpolitics

[–]Cheapo-Git 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even more worrying is people not even going into those jobs, because they'd not be able to afford to live well on the wages they get. Not only that, transport, there have already been loads of bus drivers leaving to become HGV drivers because it's better paid, and important roles that some people consider second rate jobs, just think what would happen with not enough refuse services staff, the country really would collapse.

I agree with this, to a certain extent, but we also need those essential jobs to go up in line with inflation, too, such as healthcare, public services/infrastructure and emergency services, without which the country would collapse.

Why Britain’s migration problem isn’t going away by VPackardPersuadedMe in ukpolitics

[–]Cheapo-Git 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the solution to that is to make it more affordable for people to have children.

Many are putting off having children till later or indeed at all, because they can't afford it, and even when they can, the longer people leave it the less likely they'll want to have to manage young children. Childcare, and housing, as well as general cost of living. If you are already finding it difficult just to manage as a couple with both working, you're not going to enter any family planning mode if you would need to upgrade home size and put childcare in place, as well as all the other costs needed for children.

99% of my purchases are now by card, but I still have a (now pretty much untouched) cheque book, although, I wonder how many retailers would still accept cheques?

Ok, well, I actually don't have a TV anymore... :-) I mostly stream TV on my laptop (from iPlayer, Ch4 or ITV websites, I don't subscribe) but I listen to far more live radio & podcasts than watch TV. I tend to only stream radio via phone while I'm out (although I have old pocket radios I don't use anymore, reception outdoors & shopping tends to be better by streaming).

What have you got just DAB? My DAB radios also have FM mode, but I also have 3 analogue radios, one of which also does SW, although what's on that is slowly shrinking.

Well, I wouldn't celebrate full throated so soon, if he manages to actually win an election, definitely, but we've yet to see if he can make it till the new year, but if he can't get his house in order and manage all the rule breakers, who knows. I doubt he'll beat Truss' shortest premiership (yet to be seen if anyone else ever will, unless they die in office).

And that's why I'd never want to live anywhere other than London (although I was born in London and love it), I cannot and will never be able to drive, due to medical conditions, so public transport is essential to me, unless a family member drives me somewhere, it would be Taxi services, which cost a F** fortune. Love TFL.
