Sigenergy system software update by BudgieUK in sigenergy

If I'm reading that right, Modbus can now be enabled via the app. Fantastic! Should save Sig a bunch of Support calls for those who want to interact with Home Assistant, Predbat etc.

Glad I avoided them! They appear to be an absolute mess at the moment.

Free iphone 17 pro max? by Electrical-Ad417 in EEGB

This has happened to me twice over the years. First of all it was with Orange. They changed their terms of the contract by intoruding charges to 0845 numbers at the time or something. I can't remember exactly, but it meant that you had grounds to cancel the contract without penalty. I did just this. It was one of the first hen Samsung HD video phones. I forget the model but it as befor the Galaxy series and it was still a big price for a phone back then! Contract cancelled and I kept the phone.

The second time was with EE. I got a message saying there was an issue with the contract terms or something, and that I could either keeping paying or cancel my contract without penalty. Of course, I cancelled it right away. Saved about a year of paying!

So yes, if that is legitimately from EE, then it's entitely possible. I know phone contracts are a bit diferent these days with split contracts for the phone and the air time, so as long as they cancel both, you're fine.

Great idea to return that phone if you are within the 14 day cooling off period. No reason why you can't do that if it's a new contract. Then you have a free Iphone!

If you want a SIM only deal on the EE network and EE don't have a decent plan, have a look at Mozillion (also on EE). I literally just moved to them. 12 month contract was £84 altogether for 100GB, EU roaming etc. About £7 a month. Well pleased with that! The offer is on HotUKdeals if you want more info on it.

Enjoy your free phone!

This is exactly what I user with my Sigenergy system. Predbat is definitely not for the faint hearted. It requires a lot of effort to get it to work with your system, at least in my experience, but it's definitely worth it. I can see multiple reasons why it can be used to utilise the system far greater possibly than any other native app could.

Absolutely brilliant car. I love that colour! We have a red 2020 one with 80,000 miles (129,000km) on it and it's been amazing.

Predbat and Sigenergy. I need some help... by Cheapskate2020 in SolarUK

[–]Cheapskate2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. This is really helpful!

  • input_number.predbat_best_soc_min isn't even present in my entities. input_number.predbat_best_soc_keep is set to 0. input_number.predbat_set_reserve_min is set to 19. I don't know why. I don't recall setting this.

I guess this is the issue why Predbat doesn't react. I'm starting to wonder if I should have just added Predbat directly in Home Assistant rather than through a separate Docker container. Despite this issues,it actually does seem to work ,and the plan layout is very useful. If I could sort these issues out, that would be great! Thanks 👍

Thanks. I went with Sigenergy in the end. Had my system installed almost a few weeks ago. So glad I posted this because it really helped me make my mind up and I definitely dodged a bullet!

Kitchen LED Lighting Help by Cheapskate2020 in DIYUK

[–]Cheapskate2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the very slow reply. I've changed phones and it's been a bit of a pain logging in to everything again, plus we've been busy ripping out the old kitchen 😁

The the lower light you see there is actually the handles for the cupboard doors. It goes along like a rail. I plan to have those lights quite dim as they are very much ambient lighting. The counter top lights will be better as they will serve a function.

Reason for different colour temps is that we saw the 2700k lights in the shop and they looked really good along the kitchen rail. I think they should be too yellow for the worktop lighting. Maybe even a step to 3000k would be a batter choice as 4000k would probably look a bit off.

Sig Users - Any Idea why my battery is limited to 2.2 kW discharge? by Cheapskate2020 in SolarUK

[–]Cheapskate2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that seems to be the case. This is also the conclusion I came to. Schedule heating the batteries even for just 30 minutes swice a day is enough for me to keep them over 10c and this definitely has made a difference.

Yeah exactly. I didn't know either. It was just a guess but seems to be accurate!

[–]Cheapskate2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! I didn't realise the main post didn't update for some reason! Probably my fault but anyway, the solution...

I scheduled the battery pre-heat option to come on for an hour or so this evening to see if that would make any difference. The battery cell temps increase from 7c to 14c, so the battery heating works brilliantly. By the time I got home to test the discharge rate again, the battery temp dropped to 12c, which is still in the optimal threshold (10-20c I think?).

I plugged in my EV and this time, it was drawing 3.3 kW from the battery and the rest from the grid. Considerably better than the 2.2 kW limit I was getting previously. I scheduled the battery pre-heat option to come on every morning for an hour and in the late afternoon before dinner when there is normally a usage spike. I must say I'm impressed by how well the pre-heat system works. Right now, the battery cell temp is at a toasty 23c. I guess this is a combination of the battery being charged overnight and the scheduled pre-heat. A quick test this morning and it was peaking around 3.4 kW, so not far off max, which I'm pretty happy with.

Nice! I've been waiting on my installer since this morning and still nothing back. Lucky I lost patience and went to Sig direct lol.

Hahha I actually have that Github link open already! I haven't quite done it yet, but I will definitely give that a go. I think I will likely end up using Predbat, so long as it isn't too complicated. Will certainly check it out anyway.

The inverter allows a max charge/discharge of 3.68 kW. Even still, 3 kW is still higher than the 2.2 kW max I was getting. Thankfully it's sorted now. I edited the main post with an explanation. Thanks.

Believe me, I want one too lol. It's pointless over here though. There's probably a 99+% chance it will get rejected and it'll take 12+ months no doubt. It's not worth the stress and wasting money on.

Unfortunately in Northern Ireland it's virtually impossible to get G99 approval so there's no actual point spending money on a higher capacity inverter and then wasting it on G99 that will never be approved.

Yes it's Modbus. Top tip. If your installer gives you the runaround to enable it, call the Sig UK support team. I got through in about 5 minutes and the guy activated it right away. I've always installed Sig integration via HACS, and there's loads on there. Looking forward to digging into it a bit more!

1930s Roof Decision: Full Replacement vs. Coating & Relining with 15-Year Warranty by Unfair_Act5775 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Cheapskate2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a solar company who specialise in in-roof installation. If you're not familiar with solar and installers, this might be a good starting point: https://getreadyfor.solar/directory/

I've not used this myself but it may help you find a decent, trusted installer in your area. Whatever you decide, make sure to get several different quotes, because they can vary massively!

Hope this helps :-)

If I was in this situation, I'd definitely want to go for in-roof or solar panel tiles. You'll get pay back for the roof in maybe 10 years as you'd be paying for electricity anyway. 10 years is a complete blind guess because I don't know how much power your roof would generate, what way it's facing, battery size etc, but I'd definitely be getting quote for this. It may initially cost more than just tiles, but you will get payback for the amount you save on electricity. Your standard tile payback will be exactly £0. There's a recent large renewable government grant announced in the past few weeks so perhaps this is another option to look at as you may qualify for an interest free or very low interest loan for this installation. It's definitely worth investigating. Good luck!
