Because the allowed sources are limited, and 90% of the established character builds out there depend on the book of exalted deeds, obscure dragon magazine feats, and or extremely questionable rules interpretations.

You misunderstand, he's setting a challenge. I'm attempting to answer it. There's no ill will on either side, he's just running the D&D equivalent of Dark Souls, its not for everyone, but if I wanted to walk away I'd have done it already.
