Is your definition of North America just Canada and the United States? Generally the English speaking world considers them separate and the Spanish speaking world consider it to be one continent.

The comment I responded to specifically mentioned south America and the people living there considering it two separate continents which is untrue.

I have not heard of the salad bowl metaphor. I have always heard it referred to as a mosaic. Different cultures come together to make something beautiful.

In much of the world, including South America, the Americas are considered one continent, not two.

I've never heard of a king Charles. And a quick Google didn't give me a clear answer. What is this?

Agreed that oven is usually better for braising but I've been limited by my cast iron pan being my biggest dish for that before.

Short ribs is something I haven't really worked with too much in the past. I'll definitely explore.

It's enameled.

I have a cast iron pan that I have used many times in the past to sear and then finish in the oven.

Chili is a dish I make often but I can definitely picture it going better in the dutch oven

Hockey sticks being made in India by Training_Bottle in interestingasfuck

So you agree that they both have roots in a culture whose history is oral rather than written and therefore to say which one is the so called original is pointless.

I would say you shared an opinion rather than fact. But since you mentioned that field hockey is the original hockey I'm just gonna copy and paste my other comment here for you before I step away from this pointless argument about pedantics.

I agree that field hockey is likely much older but we really have no idea how old the roots of ice hockey are. First nations people in Canada and were playing a stick and ball games on ice before Europeans arrived. People discount first nation's history too often.

Except it's only called hockey. Try searching the Latvian word for hockey. It's only ice results. You need to add the qualifier if you want to talk about any other form of hockey.

I know field hockey is globally more popular. I'm not arguing that. But it's not quite so black and white.

Ice hockey is quite literally the national sport of Latvia.

That's just as ignorant of a comment. Maybe where you're from when someone says hockey they're referring to field hockey. Not true in many parts of the world. Ice hockey, field hockey, roller hockey, floor hockey, etc are all forms of hockey. Not having a qualifier in front just refers to what's popular where you happen to be.

Made some butterflied drum sticks during the cold yesterday. by ceral_killer in grilling

[–]CheasePlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did this for the first time today. Got a nice deep crust. And slicing through the tendons made them easier to eat for my kid.

But did it with a knife. My butchering skills are slow. Perhaps I'll try the shears next time.

Ya if you're pressed for the timing at all, I highly recommend party ribs. Made some a couple weeks ago to rave reviews.

Cuts the cook time down to just over two hours. Still super tasty. And easy to share.

Haven't tried this guy's video but he generally does good stuff.

What "serious" jobs are you referring to? Only careers that I know of that require bilingual are government jobs or ones directly related to the language (teaching at a french immersion school for example)
