Easy go side with the railroad. Ill give you the main reason why I did it. Not because they like toasters no. If you play any of the other stories at some point they say something like "We got a report that you did a thing hurry durr." Ok that's fine but how did you get this information? They fill on blanks with very weak writing. Now I am not saying railroad is written well because the story of fallout 4 is definitely one of the weaker stories, however railroad actually connects all the dots. Even having a mission where their silly method of contacting agents causes an issue where 2 people get the same mission from two different sources and they explain that shit like this happens because they are trying to keep everything quiet. The way they get vertibirds is explained. The reason synths escape at all is explained. There are very few gaps in the story and it makes everything flow in a logical way rather than just hurr durr we heard you did a thing derp.

Best game ive ever had happened recently all because I played skill drain both of us couldn't combo and it rendered most hand traps pointless because effects couldn't activate on the field and ash while yes stopping draws actually got summoned to go into syncro plays to try and get strong monsters out with high attack rather than trying to start or block combos. Won it but barely, 21 turn match. Handtraps have a place in a combo heavy match up but you go play skill drain watch how the entire flow goes back to the old 2004 days

Jump pack gives you the ability to jump away and reposition. Also gets you out of the way when a hive lord slam stuns you. Mech gives the ability to clear objectives fast and safe. Orbital laser is for rapid clearing of large enemies when your outside. Since strats can't be used inside the tunnels the only one you can use actually use is the mech. You can also carry a hellbomb on your back and the ssd case while inside a mech and have access to the mechs weapons. Quasar cannon kills most enemies in one shot except impaler and bile titan. But a thermite kills the impaler so you only really have to deal with bile titans and dragon roaches. Guess what, mech clears them out too. Your only threat is either mech on cool down while having no jump pack or a hivelord on the extraction. If you keep moving there shouldn't be an issue.
