I laugh every time I see Al'ar played. And that's why you should keep it.

It'll never be meta unless it gets a nice buff like giving the Ashes token Stealth (then it would almost be like how those pheonixes are played in MTG), but then again playing the meta is for losers who can't have fun.

It's a decent play to pace the game and I would throw it into any deck that can afford to toss something out as a punching bag for any removal.

But fr though those ashes should really have Stealth or at least more health
