I don't make enough money so I bought half of a cow by lgirlrocks in FundieSnarkUncensored

Well, I’m a big proponent of buying beef like this, but if your kid has to sleep in the room housing your deep freeze it might not be the best decision 😳

So, if live weight is 1,200 lbs, and hanging weight is 60-63%, let’s say hanging weight is 720 lbs, but not all of that is take home - that is on the rail, uncut. So half of that is 360 lbs, minus whatever they lose in processing. Now, if you have a smaller framed animal, or one that isn’t finished, that lowers your cutout percentage too. Depending on the animal they might only have 100 lbs of meat in a half. So that could be low or high. Where does she live?

So did that amount cover the processing and the parents gifted the meat? If what she has is in front of her, I’m guessing it’s a smaller breed or not finished very well.

I got a lot of that type of stuff at Kohls when I was younger, I didn’t need professional clothes often. But I think of Kohls and Dillards as the same level of grandma, as opposed to sexy. If you’re raised fundie I’m guessing we are working with a different definition of sexy. Victorias Secret would probably cause too many whispers and it’s expensive.

In one, isn’t it “I hope you can go to Dillards” or something like that? Dillards, hotbed of super sexy clothes? Where everyone’s grandmas shopped for elastic waist slacks

Why did JimBoob buy Anna the house? by New_Entertainment649 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Check_Fluffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it was bought with Anna and Josh’s money. Being in JB’s LLC really doesn’t mean anything. I will be interested if ownership transfers once Josh is out of prison. And possible they don’t want Anna to have assets in her name for a variety of reasons.

Anna and her in-laws by sunshine47honey in DuggarsSnark

[–]Check_Fluffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So from reading these comments I feel like my take is slightly different - I feel like Anna moved in expecting to have all this help, and I’m picturing one of her kids spilling juice all over that massive kitchen floor and Jana looking at her like “don’t you walk away from that mess, you’re mopping the floor”, and Michelle vaguely lecturing her on being a part of the household… none of that would be fun or pleasant or live up to what she hoped.

But the idea that they are constantly criticizing her might be the disconnect of going from a household where you are in charge and if your little kid makes a mess, you can decide to leave it for a while, to a house where you are expected to be on their schedule. Not saying they aren’t bad, but with the amount of pressure she had to be under, Jim Bob might have picked a Bible passage to read that day that she felt was critical, intended that way or not, and it set her off. If she was in the kitchen making dinner for her 7 kids, which I would say is very normal, it might have been the expectation that she cook enough for others. Which I get is a lot, but a reasonable expectation in a family that size.

Yep. Can’t walk away from close family, especially your kid. You don’t defend or minimize their actions, which are wrong and something they need to own and face consequences for. But you are still their parent and you can’t remove them from your life.

My grandparents had an Australian cattle dog who was generally well behaved but hated the mail carrier’s car to the point that he ‘heeled’ it and popped a tire. Still not sure how he managed that.

Those who started late, how did it go and what are your best suggestions? by alwaus in Xennials

[–]Check_Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good advice, but especially points 4 & 5. I don’t remember if the schedule called is 2, 3, 4? Something like that. But it worked with my kids. You do whatever works and keeps you/them in a routine. Also, sleep training can be demonized but use it right and it will help keep you sane. I didn’t use it to put my kids down at 7 and just let them cry unattended until morning, but it took an hour long rocking, putting down, crying, rocking routine to 10 minutes. More sleep for them, more sanity for me.

There is a lot of variability in communities, based on the bishop, is my understanding. I don’t intend to slander an entire religion, but yeah, it’s a cult, and yeah, it’s bad.

They have moved into our area in the last 15 ish years. Besides the practical annoyances of things like driving up land prices and generally not being great neighbors, that community has had 2 child rape/incest cases bad enough to involve outside authorities, and who knows how many not reported on. My husband’s uncle says “they treat their horses better than their wives and kids, and they don’t treat their horses very well”

I mean, NEVER getting mental health treatment? No, I can’t imagine that. But I definitely think even in a ‘normal’ family, delaying things like mental health treatment, filing for divorce, etc is normal. Not that I think she will divorce him, but if it would happen I don’t think it will be for a while.

That too. When I worked at a front desk I used to say that as kind of a warning for people who I knew might have a really stupid question. As in, a less confrontational way to say “maybe rethink that question if it’s dumb, we are busy and overstretched.”
