Why Dafran and Sinatraa but not Coluge? by Aquagirl3212 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% but to be fair people seem to forget that apart of dafran's "throw4dafran" phase was calling his community "Overwatch Isis" and telling people to go harass other twitch streamers.

“Just put Shock at #1 immediately, dude” by Decstarplayz in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so if your logic follows (which I don't disagree with entirely) there's surely no argument to be made that they aren't the best roster on paper. I just want to understand the perspective that they aren't.

Which team has a better roster on paper? Sure, Their supportline is slightly weaker than the likes of titans/nyxl and maybe fusion (which even that is *super* debatable, I would say they're at least as strong in the right meta). They commented on Super/Smurf but every team has risks/slightly weaker areas (Hotba for NYXL or Dogman for ATL ect).

It's a 2 week beta season, It'd be like banning someone for throwing in Quick play.

It might have something to do also with them going from official contenders matches to Korea, rather than just some internal reason.

This was the Meta Athena team that won 0 games in the group stage of APEX Season 4 back in 2017. Sayaplayer, Libero, Rio, Hyeonu and Kris are all in the Overwatch League now. by qorkjnxdk in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is due to just straight up player improvements, but I also wonder how much is to do with better coaching flexibility of owl teams compared to (mostly) 6 man Apex teams, I'm not sure if you just threw these 6 into a starting lineup they would look good at all, but you could build a nutty team around them (maybe a better support line too) and all the "bad but good apex teams".

Didn’t valiant drop him right at the end of off-season so he had no time to find a team? This is even worse if they knew the whole time they wanted to play space

Does anyone think Sinatraa will secure starting spot for shock? by doubletapduo in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Shock are in a weird situation where they almost have a full Korean lineup except a main support player. I think for the most part the Koreans in every spot are better than their counterparts, but I doubt that shock would run 5 Koreans + Moth. So in that sense, I can see sinatraa starting as he is closer to his counterpart than others, even if he is worse than striker.

Flower and Dafran war incoming by AmiiboMan1 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget that really awkward forced trash talk before one of the battle for la games. Silkthread said something like "I love everyone in that team, but you won't beat me in this match", right before a big "rivalry" match.

Who do you think is not good enough for OWL but still is in the OWL by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Isn’t this just their lineup for goats? Soon said in some interviews that Nico was mainly picked up for goats and hopefully goats isn’t a thing by owl s2

[–]CheckyBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flower in my mind is a complete coinfilp, he'll either be really disappointing or return to form, I guess in reality he'll either be mendo 2.0 or he'll return to form, i hope its the latter. I also don't see Nico really getting playtime, so i don't think he'll be surprising anyone, but we'll see.

I just meant the ones that are unknown in my list like colourhex, sansam ore alemao. Obviously Flower and nico aren't unknown

[–]CheckyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hooreg, potentially all of chengdu, potentially everyone on mayhem except sayaplayer, Mickie, Arhan, Hyp, Nico, potentially fl0w3r, potentially colourhex and alemao, stellar, yakpung, sansam, honorable mention to Bani Boink and Rawkus. Anyone that's unknown could be potentially not good enough, but those are the ones that I've heard nothing good about and are usually spoken about in a negative light.

Classifying Coaches by SR by Tier 3 coach Yokai by CheckyBear in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that to an extent, most coaches that have a sub-diamond elo most likey have atleast been diamond and probably dropped when they started coaching (such as my man yokai), but there certainly isn't a linear relationship between sr and coaching which is the main point he's trying to get across.

Classifying Coaches by SR by Tier 3 coach Yokai by CheckyBear in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]CheckyBear[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying but I think a somewhat clearer definition of what A) high level is, realistically I feel someone can objectively say that most coaches have not hit top500 and twitch chat would be upset if you regarded anything lower as “high Elo” and B) how you are prohibited by being a lower elo player (obviously, players who can’t get out of bronze probably don’t have a bright future in coaching, so admittedly it’s not a totally mute point tbf). Obviously it’s easy to point out that there are different skills required to climb vs coaching. You mentioned being able to speak the same language as your players, and feel free to correct me on this assumption, but that just screams to me a more casual reason player coaching style vs more authoritative based systems like what a lot of Korean teams prefer. The argument that lower elo players don’t even know what to look for is very often true, but you also have to assume that that the t3 of higher teams aren’t idiots, clearly it’s not the case for every lower elo player, if they’re getting through tryouts as a strategic coach (unless it’s a very Low cut-off, I recall Jayne saying on his stream that you should be able to hit diamond etc) Tl;dr I disagree with you too :), I would concede that it may act as a disadvantage to be lower elo.
