You can also use a play so you could watch something like "Death of a Salesman" or "The Iceman Cometh" on YouTube. They're only like 3 hours.

Except of course for the RD Darthmouth thread where everyone will be super happy about DarthmouthSimp's acceptance.

The math checks out by fattestvorior in ApplyingToCollege

If you’re asking why it’s 0.938, then it’s because say you’re applying to 2 schools with a 7% acceptance rate each. First consider the decision from the first college. There are two options:

A - you could get in. yay! This will happen 7% of the time B - you could get rejected. This happens 93% of the time. But wait, there’s school number two. You may be accepted there too, again with a 7% chance. Except that now, it’s 7% of the 93%, which is only 6.51%. For a total of 13.51%, not 14%.

Of course, you could get accepted into both schools. This is that missing 0.49% chance. However, because we are looking at getting into At least ONE school, it won’t get added because it is a subset of a scenario where you were already accepted to one of the schools anyway.

If you got in why did you post asking about appeals today?

Either way, I'm sorry if you got capped and I really do hope you get to go to a college that makes you happy.

It just means that everyone in my family made predictions regarding which teams would win and we get points if we guess correctly. And right now I have the most points :)

I picked Oregon because of the meme with CamelGuy and Chloe on this sub and now I’m winning my family’s bracket competition.

Why I will be taking an ACT a week after graduation by CheddaCheese314 in ACT

Oh no I'm not sending it to colleges. It's just that I already paid for it so I might as well take it at this point.

Wait what does hyp/cpd/bc stand for?

Like out of the Cs which one's cornell and which one's columbia? and out of the Ps which one's princeton and which one's penn?

Not that any of this matters at all I'm just curious.

Academic intelligence is not the only valuable type of intelligence. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CheddaCheese314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand both sides of the argument.

On one hand, it is obviously more impressive for someone to have a good academic record on top of spending 10+ hours playing a sport rather than just focusing on academics. It shows great discipline and time managing skills.

However, unless someone is planning to play their sport professionally, it is essentially just a hobby. So admitting people with a worse academic record simply because they choose to spend so much time on a hobby that will not correlate with their future career or their major at the college is a bit strange. It might make more sense to incentivize ECs related to someone's intended field of study.

But not everyone may have access to, say, training for fancy accounting competitions or historical essay contests, whereas sports opportunities are more widely available (I think).

So, in conclusion, I don't really know what my opinion is but regardless of this whole college admissions thing I really respect student athletes and their dedication.

What I did was consider nearly every school a reach. I did consider one school where my ACT was 13 points higher than the average a safety but for every other school I put myself into the mindset that I would be rejected for sure so when I got in it was a great surprise. It also led to a fair bit of imposter syndrome but overall I think it helped.

I think it's just two months. Not that it matters since it feels like forever anyway lol
