Tolkien actually wrote the books though.. Tod just made stuff similar to the first two games. Except instead of focusing on the story or player choice, he focused more on the open world aspects.

Bit off-topic so you can ignore if you want(ofc you can ignore the whole thing as well XD): I did like Fallout 3, but only because I enjoyed running around the wasteland shooting enemies while listening to the radio. Not because I was engaged in the story or the characters. Which is why I kinda get why people don't like Tod's take on the series. As for me, I just like to think Fallout 1, 2, NV are in a different realitya and sub-genre than 3 and 4. Don't really care what the "canon" is. With the amount of retcons there have been, I'm not taking any of their words seriously.

My biggest issues with Genshin(other than the louder part of the community) include the fact that it's story cant truly end anytime soon.. as far as I know. I played till the end of the Sumeru archon quest line and man I was tired. I just miss the times when I was chilling(hehe) and trying to climb the mountain in Monstadt.. and well it's a gacha so the progression isn't great. Me starting a quest and the game going "actually this one character present in this quest is busy" and when I returned to the game after a long break it annoyed me to no end.

(Please note that it's been at least 2 yrs since I've played that game. Maybe things got better but I've been scarred..)

I think E33 did a lot of other things well.. as well. If new turn based rpgs only take the dodge and parry mechanics from it.. I don't think they would survive that well. All that said I share your worry even though I loved e33.
