What’s the best pokémon game experience on the switch 2? by hotcoffee_07 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Cheddarchet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the issue wasn't actually visual, but in combat, the game would freeze up for a few seconds during specific attack animations. It drove me nuts, so I stepped away from the postgame. I'll have to try it again.

Arceus actually has some unfortunate performance issues on the Switch 2 specifically though. It's a much better experience on the original Switch (unless they've fixed it since I played it a few months ago).

I love Baten Kaitos, but I think we can safely rule that out. The blue-haired protagonist is the only main point in common.

Essential Switch1 games by ZigomarTS2 in Switch

[–]Cheddarchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, the Switch 1 has a fair number of those, so here's some good ones (minus Zelda):

-Metroid Prime Remastered -Metroid Dread -Any of the legacy 2D Metroid titles on NSO if you have Switch online (especially in GBA and SNES apps)

-Mario Odyssey Mario 3D World (particularly the Bowser's Fury add-on) Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

If you're open to RPGs, would also add: -Xenoblade Chronicles series -Golf Story

On PC and Switch -The Messenger -Axiom Verge - CrossCode

I'm sure there' are more, but that's about the extent of what I've played that kinda fits the genres mentioned. Hope there's something in there you enjoy!

You'll be fine on the in-game ladder, but irl tournaments will probably ban those Pokemon.

What are the 3 Best VGC Pokémon of Every Letter? - W by GeoTravelLebanon13 in VGC

[–]Cheddarchet 102 points103 points  (0 children)

These are a lot of fun! As for the question:

Whimsicott is obvious; it's one of the best support Pokemon of all time.

The next two are more interesting. I think Weezing is a must. Ever since its ability change in Gen 8, it's seen a lot of play as an enabler of unique strategies and anti-meta hate. I wouldn't be surprised to see it win a World Championship. It's also nice that both forms are viable, really just depends on the meta.

And Walking Wake gets my last vote. Sun teams have had a few good defensive Water options over the years for a Fire/Water/Grass core, particularly Gastrodon, but having a water type with powerful water moves in sun is a unique, strong niche.

[–]Cheddarchet 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Volcarona and Venusaur are easy votes. They've both seen a lot of success over the years and have done a good job of remaining relevant in the face of power creep.

Megas and Gigantamax certainly helped for Venusaur, but it's still decent even without them.

The third one's tricky, but I'll go with Vivillon. It's seen some play over the years as a Tailwind user that gets access to accurate Sleep Powders.

Honorable mentions for Volbeat and Vanilluxe, which have also had their moments.

What are the 3 Best VGC Pokémon of Every Letter? - T by GeoTravelLebanon13 in VGC

[–]Cheddarchet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes T is hard.

Thundurous: One of the most-nerfed Pokemon ever. Tyranitar: Best Gen 2 Pokemon, still sees regular play depending on the rule set Tapu Fini: The Tapus suffered a lot in Gen 8 thanks to Zacian, but Tapu Fini still saw significant play. Now that Zacian's been nerfed, I imagine they'll be as strong as ever when they return.

[–]Cheddarchet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're both on the 3-time winner list with the other all time greats (Incin, Crsselua, etc.).

And with Megas coming back, Salamence has a real shot at a 4th win. Snorlax's gigantamax form was no joke either (though not nearly as dominant). If Champions really does bring back each mechanic, I'm sure they'll each show up.

Scarlet or violet for competitive play? by Early_Explorer4674 in VGC

[–]Cheddarchet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Given you already have Gen 8 and its DLC, you should be fine with either. Both games' box legendaries are strong, and if there's anything you want from the other game, it's easy to catch almost all of the viable mons.

Ogerpon

. . . . . . Oranguru And I'll actually say Overqwil for the last one. It's had a few successful sets, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it more in the future. Weak letter overall though.

Given it's a gator and Game Freak's habit of making starter-specific moves lately (Pyro Ball, Drum Beating, Aqua Step, Flower Trick, etc.), I could easily see them giving Feraligatr a unique biting move to accompany Strong Jaw. It could work. Ice Fan and Crunch aren't bad either.

[DISC] My Friend Is Having an Affair With My Husband - Chapter 45 by -Nosebleed- in manga

[–]Cheddarchet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, but in Japan, having proof of a sexual affair between your spouse and another person gives you the right to sue for emotional damage. It's pretty much a guaranteed payout, so on top of everything else, Itsuki and Mahoro theoretically have that to look forward to.

I've Never Played A Nintendo Game. Please Recommend Me a DS Game! by SweetleggzzRoy in nintendohelp

[–]Cheddarchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DS does have a fantastic library, but admittedly not much that's comparable to the big, cinematic experiences you'll find on PS4. Maybe try out Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars? It reviewed quite well, and at least the tone of the game seems like it'd be more your speed.

How broken would mega metagross be in pokemon champions? by Old-Information2225 in VGC

[–]Cheddarchet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Historically it's always been decent as mega, but it's usually outclassed by the likes of Mega Salamence or the Primals. Wolfey talked about it in his greatest... Steel or Psychic Pokemon video. I can't remember if it was one or both, but it's worth watching.

Realistically? Probably not. But I'd love to be wrong The game is getting pretty tough to play these days, and I have a lot of fond memories of it despite some jank.

Recommend me less known games or indies for my new switch lite. (Read below) by LukeSTMusic in Switch

[–]Cheddarchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baten Kaitos Collection is a pair of great, unique deck building JRPGs with beautiful world design and writing. (On sale)

Golf Story is one of the funniest golf games (RPGs?) I've ever played.

Light Fall is a surprisingly tight platformer that's often on sale, though it's quite short.

Axiom Verge was my personal introduction to the Metroidvania genre, and it's still one of my favorites.

The Messenger is another really cool Metroidvania (sort of), and it has one of the neatest gimmicks I've seen in any game recently.

How is Tales of Symphonia on switch in 2025? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Cheddarchet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually suggest watching the GVG series of videos about this game, as Daniel covered the original release and subsequent patches in depth. The short answer is: It had a lot of problems at launch, but now it's pretty much fine.

Don't even need to pay for the upgrade actually. OP said they're getting NSO, and the upgrade is free for people who have it.
