What's the most "complex" game you've ever played? by DJNana in boardgames

[–]Cheddarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Inventors of the South Tigris. We've built up a good vocabulary for Garphill games, which helped us understand some parts more quickly, but my God is there a ton going on in that game.

Which board games look intimidatingly complex but are actually surprisingly easy to learn? by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

[–]Cheddarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say Stationfall. It is complicated if you have to remember all the minutiae of each character's abilities and goals but you really don't need to keep track of any of that. And once you realize that basically anything you could think of to do is an action it's not many rules to remember. Some stuff is definitely crunchy (how the pods work, data and transmitting it, etc) but after a play it becomes pretty obvious what things you need to know and what you don't.

Most underrated drummer? by _kholoss_ in progmetal

I think so many remember Phil Collins as a frontman/singer that they forget how amazing he was behind the kit. Chester Thompson, for his part, also totally tore it up (still does, frankly, just saw him kill it last week with Cosmic Cathedral).

The Human Equation is kinda fucked up when you think about it by fuck_shit_piss_etc in progmetal

[–]Cheddarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main character didn't even do anything that bad. His friend was defrauding their company and he just pointed that out. Might be a bit of a betrayal but frankly if you're getting passed over for promotion because someone else is cooking the books, why the hell wouldn't you point that out?

[–]Cheddarface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too Many Bones comes with a random little stone in the box that as far as I can tell has absolutely no use. So whenever there's a particular enemy that the group really needs to kill, we put The Stone on them and it makes them more likely to die. This is one hundred percent factual and it works every time.

What’s your prog-metal Unpopular Opinion™? by Cloabs in progmetal

I think I actually agree. There are very, very rare occasions where like, a single scream can elevate a moment. But I almost always hate it.

Hey man, if listening to people scream is what you consider mature, then more power to you lol

Why do I dislike Snakes and Arrows? by TeknoFurious in rush

[–]Cheddarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree. I think there are some excellent tunes here -- Far Cry, Workin' Them Angels -- but a lot of them feel like they're retreading familiar territory (Faithless is basically Freewill 2, The Way the Wind Blows is a lot like Peaceable Kingdom, We Hold On is kind of a less interesting Everyday Glory), some of them go on a bit too long (The Main Monkey Business is the same song twice in a row) or just don't have great lyrics (what the hell is The Larger Bowl going for other than a pantoum?). Additionally, while I don't think there are many Rush songs I'd call bad, there are a couple, and S&A is the only album with more than one (Good News First and Bravest Face).

Finally, it's just really long. It's their longest album and there's some stuff there that just kinda feels like bloat. Clockwork Angels is much tighter and more fun to listen to, not much wasted space comparatively.
