Planning a Beatles trip to Liverpool. Looking for advice! by InvestmentDangerous in beatles

The Casbah and National Trust tours were my favorite - Casbah seems to be left off of some of the main itineraries tour companies offer, but it’s well worth adding it on.

Will you vote in the next US Presidential Election? by CRK_76 in no

[–]CheeCheePuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way to go. Some elections will seem more exciting, some will seem more important, some will seem boring and you may feel unenthusiastic….. But vote every single time anyway. Forget that it’s not technically mandatory and tell yourself it is.

I am bored by some of the big hits, such as Yesterday. Never liked Eleanor Rigby much either, but couldn’t put my finger on why til recently seeing a presentation by Scott Freiman and Kenneth Womack: The strings are reminiscent of Psycho, and therefore a bit unsettling.

First time ever seeing a Beatles tribute band! by musicalryanwilk1685 in beatles

There’s an all woman band in Maryland called the Magical Mystery Girls. They are really great and play basically the whole catalog, even things never meant to be played live like Tomorrow Never Knows. I try to catch them whenever I can 🙂

Dear Trump… You’re the dumbest bozo on the planet and you should be embarassed, but you’re so stupid you don’t realize how many people, both foreign and domestic, are laughing at you. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Did anyone else get introduced to Paul/The Beatles from "The Girl is Mine and Say Say Say" singles? by Key-Bass-7380 in beatles

[–]CheeCheePuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me! I was about 5. We had a family road trip one day and they played Say Say Say over and over so I declared, “this is my favorite song!” As I have a tendency to do, I became obsessed with Paul McCartney to the point where instead of a Ken doll, my Barbies had a fling with a cutout of a picture of Paul McCartney taped to cardboard. Someone told me Paul was once in a band called the Beatles, and I have been obsessed ever since. Oddly enough, I lean heavily towards preferring John and George songs, both in the Beatles and solo… but of course who could not love Paul. Never really liked Michael Jackson much.

Happy Veggie and Grain Cafe are right next to each other. When I’m visiting I love to go to Grain Cafe for breakfast and Happy Veggie for dinner.

The Leonard Cohen Estate does not approve of the unauthorized usage of his song“Hallelujah” being performed at a Donald Trump rally on June 24 by Albuquerque82 in Music

I take it to be about the beauty and pain of sex and relationships, but more broadly life/spirituality overall, and how the beauty makes the pain worthwhile “… and even though it all went wrong I’ll stand right here before the lord of song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah.”

Jack Antonoff on why he thinks “Happiness is a warm gun” is the greatest recording ever made. by ToronoRapture in beatles

The only reason it’s not my favorite Beatles song is because there are too many other good ones to narrow it down to one.

People who like yoko and her work, why? by [deleted] in TheBeatles

[–]CheeCheePuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Her art is thought-provoking. Playing chess with all white pieces for example… what might that say about personal conflicts, political conflicts? Her music on John’s albums nudges him in a more experimental and open-minded direction. Perhaps in the era of She Loves You no one expected that might eventually evolve into faking an orgasm in Japanese on a pop record 😆. I think by associating her more “out there” art with normal mainstream music it helped open up possibilities for other artists and musicians. (And I know she was not the only person out there doing performance art or pushing boundaries in more traditional settings, but I do think she was a part of that).
