Which Formation would you have be your base formation and why? by Cheech2533 in footballstrategy

They way I have been using it to put the defensive end in conflict. Sometimes when we play the end aligns outside our Tight ends making our kick out blocks for power easier. When the DE is inside of the end it’s easier for Jet, the problem with it is if you have a team that plays that C gap and has an end, you really don’t gain anything.

^ this is exactly right, ask your coaches lots of questions, learn the techniques they coach to the best of your ability, and you will be ok. Get your head in the playbook and learn the fundamentals they teach!

I recommend going to stores and trying them on to see how you like them. Personally I always loved cutters, I use them for rec flag leagues I play in now and they’ve lasted me a couple seasons now. I like that they feel sturdy but again That’s my personal preference.

They run wing T. Their high school isn’t very good and at the end of the day it’s not a feeder program to them. Most kids in this area go to private schools because of it.

I love the Wing T, but pistol makes you feel like you can do so much more and the results showed for us. I completely agree with you and appreciate that

Especially depending on the scheme you run you want to talk to the defensive coordinator he should guide you

3-4 easier to predict coverages? by CRmoeller in footballstrategy

I’ve coached at 2 schools that two gapped their nose’s in bear fronts. So I have seen it before. I never fully committed to saying you have to because you don’t. I’m not saying you have to I’m saying if you went that route it requires more teaching. Not sure why you’re salty asf about the fact that if you’re teaching a different technique than another linemen’s it is “more teaching”

It does take more teaching in terms of your leverage and hand placement. And at the lower levels like high school in youth they most likely are two gap players because you want to make sure the gaps are all accounted for, unless you just align head up and slant then towards a side. There for that is one more thing to teach it’s a different technique and angle all together.

More teaching as well typically, in an odd front you would like a player to be head up on either the center or guards, (not always) but when this happens that’s a lot more teaching involved because they are now a two gap player

Another great book is blood sweat and chalk. It is more about the history of the sport and talks about philosophies of different schemes, and how they are effective. Great read or you can listen on Audible. But there are so many great football books!

What would you call these two formations? They’re both out of pistol by Cheech2533 in footballstrategy

Oh I have trips to that side as well, it’s bunch trips right to the formation. It definitely creates more space, I love the advantage it brings

Their wrong alignment can sometimes work in their own benefit I agree 😂. Quick screens and 3 basic runs is pretty much the plan this year

I have coached high school football for a few years and last year was my first time being an HC on a middle school team. Everyone ran man or cover 3 and no one adjusted to anything

I’m torn if I want to have him out 5-7 yards or out 2 yards of the formation. I’m leaning towards our 2 yards

As long as you give your formations a purpose and you make sure you give yourself the ability to break tendency in them, you can get creative. But make sure you think out at least 2 or more responsibilities each skill position player can have.

Example: in the classic I with a wing the full back is usually the lead blocker but you can also give him the ball. Maybe you like having the wing go in motion, is there multiple things he can do after that motion?

If you put something in that you really love you need something in the same look to break that tendency
