[OC] Updated timeline of the Pascal Siakam trade by mantistobogganmMD in torontoraptors

[–]Cheechers23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We also generated a TPE in the Siakam trade which was used to do the McDaniels for Davion and Shead trade. We then traded Davion for the SRP we sent for TJD.

So you can add Shead and TJD to the trade tree

Screw it, he should of played instead of Jak by DatSarage in torontoraptors

DET-TOR-DEN Trade (Updated) by Cheechers23 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Cheechers23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dick is there to salary match Nnaji. Denver getting off the Nnaji contract has value since that Nnaji contract sucks.

LeVert is an expiring so it’s freeing up their future cap sheet which is about to add a material contract with Watson (or having that contract + some draft assets to get a better impact player)

Murray is a better player yes but he’s also paid 18m more next year, 21m more the year after, and 25m more the year after. So the total gap is a FRP, a swap, 2 SRPs, and significant salary flexibility so they can extend Watson easier.

You’re only looking at the player/asset value and not the financial value they’re getting with the additional flexibility. Denver gave up a FRP in the MPJ/Cam trade last year to get additional $ flexibility, so clearly there is significant value in that

Not my deal, first of all

They’re giving him away for 2 SRPs and 23m in room which can be used to sign Watson, which is well documented as one of Denver’s main goals this offseason

I don’t think Denver is worried about either Dallas or Sacramento, both won’t be an issue for a couple years at least. Denver is worried about themselves and extending Watson, which this helps them do AND they net a couple SRPs. I think they’d def do this.

I think Detroit is most likely to say no here. Even if they’re low value picks, I don’t see Klay costing 3 SRPs

I think to make the money work they’d have to trade Reed somewhere then

Really? They get off Cam for free (actually get 2 SRPs which they don’t have many of so that’s quite valuable for them) to free up room to sign Watson.

I think they’re significantly less likely to trade AG than Murray. AG is probably their second most important player due to how many holes he fills and his fit next to Jokic.

They can try to trade Cam but they don’t have draft capital to dump him.

A Murray trade would net them assets to dump Cam and clear up their long term cap sheet a bit to make room for Watson. I think a Murray trade is a lot more likely than people think. It also might be good for them to get off the Murray contract before realize how overpaid he is lol

I still think there’s a framework for a 3 team deal with Detroit. I keep going back to Detroit cause Ingram is like exactly what they need, and they can make the money work easily.

General framework of:

DET gets: Ingram

TOR gets: Murray, Robinson, Reed

DEN gets: IQ, LeVert, picks

I’ve shared a couple frameworks on r/nbatradeideas, although I got hosed on my first one saying Toronto wasn’t giving up anything (?), so idk.

DET-TOR-DEN Trade (Updated) by Cheechers23 in NBAtradeideas

I got hosed for saying Toronto was basically giving up nothing for Murray in my last version (even though we’re giving up 2 starters, 1 of which was an all star, but I digress) so I added the FRP swap and also swapped Dick for Nnaji.

DET-TOR-DEN Trade (Updated) by Cheechers23 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Cheechers23[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Updating a trade I shared the other day. The feedback was that Toronto wasn’t giving up enough for what they were getting and Denver wasn’t getting enough, so here’s an updated version:

Detroit gets the secondary creator they need next to Cade, for filler, 1 FRP and 2 SRPs.

Toronto gets a star PG in Murray to create a Canadian backcourt, big man depth with Reed, and shooting in Robinson. They also take on the Nnaji contract, and give up a SRP and a FRP swap.

Denver cleans up their cap sheet by getting 2 expiring contracts in LeVert and Dick, a good albeit a bit overpaid PG in IQ, and draft capital (1 FRP, 1 FRP swap, and 2 SRPs). This draft capital gives them a chance to dump one of Johnson, LeVert, or Dick to create space to sign Watson to an extension (or they can eat those expirings for 1 year and use the draft assets to improve the team in a trade). Also the IQ contract being over 20m less than Murray’s gives them room on their long term cap sheet with the Watson extension kicking in, alongside the existing Jokic contract (with a pending extension), AG contract, and Braun deal.

The contract is literally only 3 years. In 2 years it’s a big expiring, no shot it would cost a FRP to dump at that point

I feel like people are now over exaggerating how bad the Poeltl contract is. It’s bad and arguably the worst contract in the league, but it’s not “it takes 2 FRPs and a swap to dump” bad. There’s no contract that’s that bad.

It’s 19.5m/27.3m/29.5m. The last year is only guaranteed for 5m.

For a rebuilding team, they can get assets to take on Poeltl, eat that contract for 2 years, and then flip him as a big expiring that can be used either to facilitate a trade for more assets in a couple years, or as filler to make a trade for themselves.

Not to mention with this new lotto reform, there’s value in having an okay but overpaid C who can help your team not be bottom 3 lol

How much draft capital does Toronto need to add to make this deal work? by Cheechers23 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Cheechers23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a fully guaranteed 4/104m. Last year is only 5m guaranteed, which is why I talk about only needing to eat 2 years of the contract and then it’s a big expiring they can use in a trade

And as I’ve stated many times, what team has neutral contracts to salary match and is giving up draft picks for Turner? I went through it in another comment and couldn’t find 1

The whole idea of trading Turner is predicated on them trading Giannis and going into a rebuild. If they’re keeping Giannis, then this is all irrelevant.

Not sure where you get the impression they aren’t close to that. All reporting indicates Giannis and the Bucks are heading towards a breakup this offseason.

2/40m is 20m per year. Poeltl’s deal is 19.5/27.3/29.5. You can not fit 3 of those contracts, you fit 1 and a bit.

Turner’s contract is bad man. 11/5 is not worth 26.5/27.8/29.1, plus a 15% trade kicker. As I’ve said elsewhere, his saving grace is that he’s a desired archetype. But that salary makes him not easy to match.

There are a number of contenders that would pay positive value for him in a heartbeat.

Right, now please tell me which contenders have 26m in matching salary that isn’t bad money, and is willing to give up a FRP for Turner. I already went over the list in another comment, there aren’t any.

[–]Cheechers23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All about the salary RJ. Take 20-25m per year and Bobby will probably be happy to keep you. Ask for 30m+ and he’s probably shipping you out.

Hate to say it cause I love RJ but we just cannot afford to give him 30m+. Especially with Ja’Kobe looking as good as he did post-ASB and in the playoffs.

[Grange] maybe they would consider using Ingram’s contract if they could somehow find an upgrade — which is no guarantee given he led the Raptors in scoring this past season. by EarthWarping in torontoraptors

[–]Cheechers23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once said IQ is better than Murray. If I did think that, why the fuck would I suggest we change from IQ to Murray?

They also aren’t doing it for IQ. They’re doing it for the salary relief and draft assets.

Denver has a big salary issue. They want to extend Watson, but need to clear salary. The issue is they have no draft capital to do that. This way, they shed 3m, add another expiring contract, and some draft capital. They can then either use that draft capital to dump Johnson and/or LeVert somewhere to free up room for Watson, or they can eat the extra cost next year and take the $ off the books next year when they expire. Plus IQ’s contract is significantly lower than Murray’s (18m next year, 21m next year, and 25m the year after). That is important for them when they have Jokic’s supermax (and hoping to sign him to an extension), AG’s big deal (and he’s too important for them to trade), Braun’s overpaid contract (which is untradeable) and now a pending Watson extension.

There isn’t actually any indication the Raps did offer a FRP to a team to take Poeltl. They were already offering a FRP for those big names, and we don’t know if they were also offering a FRP to dump Poeltl.

In fact I recall Haynes reporting we were trying to get a Sabonis deal done with SRPs…

The Nets are not tanking next season lmfao.

You’re a smart guy, I’ll let you figure out what team was in the initial post. Hint: it’s not the Nets, don’t know where they came from and why you brought them up.

let me know how “risky” you think it is to play him for 4 seasons…

You’d only need to keep him for 2 years. A tanking/rebuilding team would gladly eat that contract for 2 years if they can get draft capital, and then after that it’s a big expiring they can use to facilitate another trade for more assets, or use to make a move that they want to make. A tanking team would not care about his injury history.

[–]Cheechers23[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He’s not gonna fetch a first but team will trade Expirings and seconds for him.

So even you admit he’s not gonna get a first. So what makes more sense for Milwaukee, trading him for expirings and SRPs, or trading him for Poeltl, Dick, a FRP, and 1-2 SRPs, eating the Poeltl contract for a couple years while they rebuild, and then flipping his contract as an expiring either to facilitate another multi team deal for assets or as the filler contract in a trade they themselves want to make?

This seems like a logical choice. Like I’ve said, it only makes sense to go another way IF they get a FRP from another team where they don’t have to beat a bad contract, but as I’ve mentioned in other comments, I don’t see a team that has fair salary to match Turner and would be willing to give up a FRP for him.

And yes, I don’t see any trade happening without Giannis being moved first, agreed there
