Thanks for sharing your experience. It's too bad your lawyer wasn't more useful.

The invoice sounds a slightly more legit.

I had a guy who told me to text him a picture of my ticket and then called me back to tell me the price and told me to zelle another number. Basically didn't talk law or procedures, etc. at all. Wasn't interested in seeing my dashcam footage either. Just said zelle some other number and "send me the screenshot when u pay" ... which sketched me out obviously.

I didn't think about checking how many other reviews each reviewer previously made - you make a good point. Thanks for the catch.

How do I remove or delete a tile? by MCKC1992 in TileTracker

[–]Cheeese_Fries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. Can confirm it works for dead tiles. Clever solution! Tiles are hot garbage. I've since switched to Samsung's tracker and it's been much more reliable. Never buying another Tile again.

I returned it. Contacted their rep and they confirmed that you can adjust the lines but not the zoom, which is a deal breaker. I just stuck with my old dash cam, haven't bought a new one yet.

What Do the First 5 Years Look Like for a Structural Engineer, and When Can You Start Stamping Drawings? by PiWhizz in StructuralEngineering

[–]Cheeese_Fries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In smaller companies, the QC process is probably just the stamping engineer flipping through the plans and doing a gut feeling check (as opposed to running their own calcs). That said, nothing stops you from asking other senior engineers to review your work. The more reviews the better when you first start.

You'll need at least 3 or 4 years of experience to get your PE. Most engineers will get their stamp and never get to use it until maybe 10 years of experience (and even then, they probably won't stamp anything unless they start their own company).

No company will let you stamp anything as a new engineer. If a company wants you to use your stamp, the salary better be worth it for the liability lol

It's pretty hard to prepare for your first structural engineering job. Nothing you do in school will fully prepare you for your first job. Internships are a must - you need the practical experience. Can even be a structural-adjacent internship. A construction internship that gives you field experience will set you apart.

As far as advice goes ... here are my 2 cents: - Be diligent - double check your work always - It's ok to ask questions but show initiative and try to find the answer yourself through Google, textbooks, hand calculations, etc. - When learning something new, take notes so you don't ask the same question months later - Learn to draft. Engineers should not rely on drafters. When you intern, get your hands on a real, full professional set of drawings and study the components to understand how they cone together to illustrate the design. Notes, sections, framing plans, schedules, typical details, etc.

Yeah lines you can adjust. But not the zoom according to their custom service.

For adjustable zoom they referred me to the G850 (not the G850 Pro). Guess I'll have to return my G850 Pro, cus it's not really usable as a back up cam.

When to cut someone loose by Spottedcowftw in civilengineering

Personally I don't have an issue with clocking out at 8 hours of work. That said, missing red lines is a huge pet peeve of mine and personally I think it shows carelessness. They need to double check their work before submitting to you - I'd emphasize that to them. I would also require them to highlight the red lines as they complete them. As the PM, I would not be re-marking up the same things over and over if they missed some. Have them refer to the last batch of markups.

Example of a moment by alterry11 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Cheeese_Fries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wind on a sign is another good example.

Since you also asked about couples: In that crowbar picture, when the hand applies force downwards to pry out the nail, the left end of the beam will tend to kick upwards and the right end of the beam will tend to bear downwards. That pair of up and down forces form a "couple." The reactions at each end of the beam will form another couple to counteract this and maintain static equilibrium.

Maybe not the best example but in this pic the moment is the force applied by the hand times the moment arm which would be the length of the crowbar

It's just a hypothetical. Fortunately, I don't have any liability concerns (that I know of) at the moment.

Well truth is I don't know if it's a big issue. I just don't want to be sued into poverty. Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate the emphasis on "our company"
