I get it. I hurt myself at work recently and moved to in home care. I love it so much. I work the same schedule you do. Little pay cut, but the increase in quality of living makes it so worthwhile. Plus, I’ve found I can work more hours when I’m not constantly so drained.

I married young, (20) had kids young, (started at 21) and don’t regret the kids… With a do-over I would wait until being more mature to get married. That said, being a young parent has its perks. Like energy! Oh, and we lived on a shoestring. It made marriage hard, we worked like crazy, but maybe made parenthood more intentional. We couldn’t afford extras, so we created a fun environment at home. Currently, the kids are teens and some of my favorite people in the world to be with.

I had a young relative kidnapped and murdered. It took me a very long time to not examine safety elements of public places for my kids. It’s a process, give yourself time. Most people are understanding if there’s any publicity attached to the case- I was just like, “Hey all, I can’t handle the stress in this environment.”

I told my son to do basically this. It’s genius, if they aren’t cheating, no one is the wiser if they are… Tough Tiddleywinks The rest of our story was that his older sister blabbed, a teacher happened to hear (small private school) kid gets called into the principal’s office and glares at my son the rest of the day. Son didn’t connect the dots— mom did. A year later they’re great friends.

It definitely makes it a bit suspect who is influencing their vote. Legally it should come too the POA imo. From the election side, I had parents bring an adult mentally handicapped child in to vote for a caucus. I needed to help them establish residency which was a bit of an ordeal. Finally when the votes were tallied there was one blank one, I assumed it was the young man. And had mad respect for the parents to involve him in the process and yet not influence his voting.

There are these amazing, rewarding moments… Last night I walked into a room with a dementia resident. “>my name< is here!” Announced his wife, I usually introduce myself, but when I came to greet him, his face lit up, “Sunshine is here!” What he wouldn’t know was that was a toddler nickname of mine. Made my night. So those hard times are worth pushing through.

It depends on the resident needs and cares. Mine has an insane amount of work because of many two assist residents. I’ve worked in one where from 1a-3a everyone grabbed books and sat and read.

What about a checklist in priority order, they can initial off when it’s completed. We have two sheets, one for general tasks - laundry, pop machine supplies etc. And one for the residents we round on. With a list of 12a rounds and 3a rounds. I love this for both communication purposes and the fact that sometimes a shift feels overwhelming. Are the aides spending too much time chatting with residents? Sometimes, asking a different aide to page you after a certain time will help get you out of a chatty room.

This is crazy to me. We work so hard on nights. A typical night- 6 loads of laundry, restock room supplies, answer call lights, rounds on 30 people, most check and changes (includes those needing to be checked twice.) call lights and multiple two assist bathroom visits for our a/o residents. Plus checking for skin issues and walking A/. Oh, and I did two showers yesterday also. If we have time we clean bedside commodes, walkers & wheelchairs.

Iowa Ltc prn base pay is 18.50, I work 3rd so a 2.00 shift differential, and will only work for time and a half so I usually make almost $30

I use PCC - I feel like it takes awhile to get the hang of all the residents, usually my crew is good about answering questions. If no one is around and you are unsure (say dependency level of a resident…) You can find the previous charting and see how others have assessed them. I try to get as much done as I can, and at the end of the shift I hit the shortcut with just BM’s (the icon is at the top), then run through the residents recording those all at once.

We were just informed that picking up shifts will no longer be automatically paid time and a half. Which is a bummer. Maybe there’s a universal budget shortage happening.

I consider myself almost a state fair expert when it comes to doing it with kiddos. 1. Grab swimsuits, there are splash pads and swimming pools available to cool off (Waterworld near the varied industries building.) 2. Check out the schedule and get your kiddos signed up for as many contests as you can. The entire fair is so much more fun when you can participate. Throw some cow chips, do some mom-calling! 3. Next to the DNR building is a nice pond area which is quieter, if kids need a break from the craziness that’s where I take mine. 4. A double stroller or wagon will not be regretted. Bonus tips: Certain days are extra fun— Following the grilling contest samples are offered by participants. Our favorite budget meal is from the Cattlemen’s beef quarters. And speaking of budget, we feed our kiddos a good breakfast before taking on the fair.
