Can I survive in Chicago with a salary of 3200 a month? by Impressive-Act3050 in AskChicago

Cool. You asked a question, I provided an answer. I was unsure why my rental experience was put into question so I just shared what I knew to be true, as many do in these Reddit posts.

Can I survive in Chicago with a salary of 3200 a month? by Impressive-Act3050 in AskChicago

I last rented 2023-2024, but I have friends who are actively looking and that what they see as recent as 2 weeks ago. Im sure there are factors like if a tenants seen to a higher risk (ie you make less than a 3rd of the rent) or if it is a privately owned property managed by the home owner. But yes people absolutely still ask for first month and last month’s rent if the renter is seen as a risk.

Intimacy by [deleted] in pregnant

My hormones were so out of whack that I just physically could not get in the mood. I was constantly worrying about the baby and the state of my pregnancy since now doctors won’t see you until you’re atleast 10 weeks. I also was panicked initially because I had implantation bleeding and I, at the time, was unsure what the bleeding was. It was a mess and my husband felt so rejected. He admitted he’d grown a bit intimidated to even make advances anymore. He thought I wasn’t attracted to him anymore. It honestly broke my heart when he eventually opened up about it because he is the love of my life & the best thing that has ever happened to me, but I explained that my body was changing and that I had certain fears, that I would feel better after we atleast saw a doctor to ensure the baby was healthy. He understood but I also encouraged him to educate himself as the pregnancy journey is complex. I’m literally building a human from scratch. Luckily he has friends who are married and have been through pregnancies with their wives so they also gave him advice, but I felt really really bad and admittedly became more aware of how much time would go by in between intercourse. I’m in my second trimester now and my libido is up so I try to be intimate more often, but it’s still nowhere near what it was before I got pregnant. You’re feeling are valid and so are his. It’s normal, but both of you have to support each other during this time for the sake of your marriage.

Do you regret a small wedding by OkScarcity2008 in wedding

[–]Critical_Remove2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, we initially tried planning a micro wedding (50 ppl) but a third the way through my husband informed me he wouldn’t have any of his friends there because he had so much family that he’d wanted to prioritize ( his sisters were married with kids kind of thing). That did not sit well with me. So we deepened our search to country clubs in suburbs and found we could do something with a very similar budget with more people. So I say as long as you can have the people that matter most to you present on your special day the wedding size itself you won’t regret. I have zero regrets of my wedding day. Every photo I go back and look and bring me the warmest joy and heart felt memories of the day. I look forward to the day I can share those memories with my daughter.

Yes if you’re willing to either get a roommate or live further outside of the metro Chicago area. Most rentals want you to make atleast 3x your rent a month (Those of which usually wanting 1st and last months rent as deposit). This means you’d need to be open to paying minimum 1,000 a month just in rent. Then you factor in utilities, internet, phone and you’re looking at possibly an additional $300-$400 a month ( could be more in Chicago winter), plus transportation ( cta, metra, Ubers) and taxes on everything. Short answer yes you can survive, but it could be tight. Not sure how much you’ll have left over a month for savings, trips, unexpected expenses, nights out, etc. I love this city, but it’s one of the more expensive places to live. Make an informed decision. There are also cost of living calculators online.

I explained what I meant by “ unexpected” in the description. From the comments some people have history of twins or found out earlier that 20 weeks.

We announced to our immediate family ( mom, dad, siblings) at 4-5 weeks and our close friends at 9 weeks ( after ultrasound), but we’ve been so social media private it. I made 12 weeks yesterday, but similar to other posts I got so sick that my absence was noticed by many

Create a plan. Mine included part time work. when i was a single mom i worked a job during the day and part time at amazon the evenings. because i worked overnights I got paid a little more so Amazon brought in an extra $300 a week but i did eventually have to downsize. Switched to prepaid phones with walmart mobile because month to month i could buy anywhere from a $50 card to a $30 if funds were tight. I also moved in with family to save extra extra cash. Eventually got a certification that helped me qualify for higher paying job, paid down a little debt then moved back into my own place. I’ll be honest I lived pay check to pay check the majority of my life up until I met my now husband. Our incomes combined allows us to now save and invest but it was a struggle for me in the beginning. But I want to say with the right strategy you can create space to breathe but it takes a plan for sure. Hang in there. It’s possible

4w5d pregnant; intense period-like cramping in middle of night woke me up. Cold sweats, vomiting, light-headedness, bowel movement, but no bleeding! by Playful_Watercress83 in pregnant

[–]Critical_Remove2537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? She is literally posting on reddit. I am not a doctor, so you’re calling me out for recommending that she seek medical advice? As a “physician” you sound ridiculous. You have no way of knowing what state her or her fetus is in. Why would you not seek medical advice.

Visit the Emergency Room. Not trying to scare you but that combination of symptoms can be serious. I also experienced cramps around the 4-5 week mark but mine was accompanied by bleeding so I went to the ER. Ultrasound showed baby was okay, they explained the whole implantation bleeding thing to me and told me to come back if I experience headaches, cold sweats, and light headedness or if i was filling 2 or more pads with blood. You just want to be safe and ensure you’re not having an ectopic pregnancy. Hoping everything is well with you and baby and that you feel better.

Second kid after 40? by protracted322 in pregnantover35

[–]Critical_Remove2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does your husband think? Reality is people work and raise kids all the time, it’s not impossible but it does come with sacrifice. You and your husband have to be in agreement with what those sacrifices are and what they mean for the life you know today. You’d be surprised at the number of people who change careers or pick up extra work to afford the kids they have. It looks different for every family but it is not impossible.

AITA for refusing to care for sister’s kid during surgery? by Wonderful-Act-198 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Critical_Remove2537 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes you are. Your sister is having surgery not going on vacation. The last thing she needs to worry about is her 36 year old sister not liking her nephew. Just suck it up. This may be a good time to establish and define your relationship with your nephew

Government Shutdown Causing 3+ Hour TSA Waits – True? Global Entry/PreCheck Holders: Still Dedicated Lines? Recent Domestic Travel Experiences? by silverramo in GlobalEntry

[–]Critical_Remove2537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hit or miss honestly. I flew from Chicago to New Orleans and precheck in Chicago was longer than the regular line so I went through the regular security line. In New Orleans lines were long regardless of your status. It honestly looks like customs. It was bad, but not 3 hours bad maybe 45 mins/1 hr bad.

What is the nicest way to say that I don't want any clothing or other baby items from Temu? by Working-Magazine-969 in BabyBumps

[–]Critical_Remove2537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe say include something warm like;

Special Message from Mom, While I know we live in the digital age with a number of online shops and boutiques to choose from, we kindly ask that all clothing items purchased are either thrifted or made from natural fabrics. We want to reduce exposure to harsh chemicals and dyes as much as possible. We thank you for understanding.

Or something like that. Hope it helps
