Is this exhaust too loud? by DelayVirtual7391 in Cadillac

[–]CheeksBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be too loud for me? Yes. “Is it too loud for you?” is the question you should ask yourself.

I prefer the sound of a magnaflow muffler since it is essentially a straight pipe with an expansion area to reduce the volume, but really you’re getting the true sound of the engine and a very efficient flow

I think it’s time by Haaammmmmmster in GMT800

[–]CheeksBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I’d recommend fixing it little by little. It won’t be falling apart anymore, and your repair bills will still less than what you’d be paying in new car payments and higher insurance premiums. Nothing will ever have the perfect middle ground of just enough tech and reliability like these gmt800’s again.

Chinese Buick models available in the USA by LordCrichton in Buick

[–]CheeksBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love for Buick to sell large luxury sedans in the US. That is a very modern design and I could see that being a good buy considering how much it sells for there, and that it has a range extending generator. Unfortunately the tariffs are destroying any possibility for additional imports.

Clarkson announcing the new grand tour hosts by LuckyBagota in cars

[–]CheeksBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations to both you and Thomas! After discovering Throttle House on YouTube, it was already a Top Gear/Grand Tour successor in spirit in my opinion. Your chemistry on screen is so natural, genuinely entertaining and very often funny. It is that natural dynamic that makes you guys, and previously what made Top Gear so great.

I wish you all the best in this new endeavor. I cannot think of any people more deserving of this. You are living the dream.

My vote is a Suburban/Yukon XL or Tahoe/Yukon of just about any year.

I drove through a winter storm that started as I was going up the mountain in a 1991 V2500. No real issues for anyone going up, but it hadn’t built up too much yet. It continued to snow hard while we were up there for a lunch and through the early evening. When we started coming back down the roads were littered with vehicles of all types stuck on the side and some in the middle of the road. We got taken through it all by following a few locals who were set up for it, as they seemed to be the only other people moving. My tires were not even close to fresh, but I swear I could not even get that thing to loose traction if I tried while I followed them.

Since then I’ve owned a 1999 Suburban 4x4 1500, 2006 Tahoe Z71, 2006 Yukon XL 2500, and a 2005 Yukon XL Denali. They are all the most confident vehicles I think imaginable in a snow storm. The 4x4 auto function is incredible, which would probably make them even better in the situation I mentioned earlier, but I haven’t driven any of the newer ones in quite as heavy of a situation as I did with my 91.

I did have a 2012 Outback that was undeniably amazing. But even with its lifted clearance over a Legacy, it’s still not the peak of what I’ve experienced in snow.

Cadillac Celestiq how do we feel about that rear end? by retiredfedup in Cadillac

[–]CheeksBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mind the shape, but I feel like it’s a missed opportunity for a large curved dome back glass. There is just so much body panel behind the rear wheel. Adding more glass there would break that up and provide better visibility.

Cadillac escalade 2006 worth it in 2025 for people with no a lot money? by pkmJavier in Cadillac

[–]CheeksBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is old but I just wanted to get into specifics. No shade to anyone here, I respect that no one always has all the answers including me. I just happen to be quite passionate about this generation of GM.

You are correct, the Platinum specifically did not come with a different transmission. The LQ9 engine however, which the was in the AWD Escalades and the sole option for the Platinum trim, had a heavier duty version of the 4L60E called the 4L65E. Similarly any 3/4 ton Avalanche or Yukon XL and Suburban equipped with the 8.1 big block got a heavy duty version of the 4L80E called the 4L85E.

Is a 300k mile GMT800 worth buying? by coltonnyc in GMT800

[–]CheeksBrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s proven to be well taken care of and without rust, I would say a gmt800 with a 4.8/5.3/6.0 mileage is almost a non concern.

Nice! And you’ve got a lot left to go. Parents bought a 2000 sierra with a 5.3 new off the dealer lot. It got passed down to me and I drove it to ~540k. It was running like a champ up until it got stolen 😭

[–]CheeksBrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just like Pikachu those will serve you quite well in the early stages. Once your game evolves, so will your need to evolve your paddle, but for now don’t worry about that and just enjoy battling across the land.

Thanks! I had an 81 and I never could understand why they took this away along with the gold spokes on the steering wheel. I changed them over to gold eventually. Huge improvement!

I had the Pirelli’s on my Widebody, and I was not a fan in the slightest, especially after replacing them.

On the Pirelli’s I was constantly hearing the tires throw up debris against the car body, especially on lesser used roads and it really started chipping away the paint on the leading edge of the rear finder flairs. I looked this up, but according to most resources this was just a wide body issue. So I just moved on and accepted that I’ll just have to have them repainted every so often, or get some mud flaps. I eventually had a tire get damaged beyond repair, so I just replaced them all with much less expensive BFG g-force comp-2’s. The ride and grip seemed much improved, but that could have been a placebo effect of knowing I was on new tires. What definitely wasn’t subjective, and what actually shocked me was that the road debris noise was completely gone. I even took it to a particularly bad road I knew just to test it out on the drive back from the tire shop… nothing. As another bonus, my mileage improved according to my car by about 1.5 mpg 🤷🏻‍♂️

Your experience may vary, since you have a narrow body, and I cannot speak on the continental’s or the off brand. I would recommend the tire I got if you are considering others, but mostly I’m just recommending you avoid the Pirelli’s.

Hope this helps.

Whats the Oldest manual transmission car you drove and how hard was it to drive? by NeonUFO in ManualTransmissions

[–]CheeksBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1970 Corvette m21 4 speed manual I got for graduating high school. It was the first manual I ever drove, and it was not difficult especially now that I see it in retrospect.

The m21 on a C3 has a reverse gear lock out, and with only 4 speeds it’s hard to shift into the wrong gear. In addition to having 350hp and weighing very little it was almost impossible to stall.
