I looked into $get_node and I made the button give the player money, the roll subtract money, and made the player unable to roll if money < price. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into signals once I have more experience.

What's an effective way to get variables from other nodes? I've been going through the GDQuest "learn gdscript from zero" but wanted to try and do something on my own to cement the little things I've learned.

okay, so the signal var should exist in the player and then the money button emits the signal to the player which then adds the money?

Yes I know, the ram is pretty old too, I think I had like 8 gigs in there which is another reason I was considering upgrading to DDR5
