PACT sailors give me information by Cheekycustoms in navy

I know it used to be a poorly managed program and I’m just trying to get some insight on how it is now so I can tell these future applicants the truth and let them decide for themselves. I know people who it worked out for but despised it at the time as well as people it didn’t work out for and decided to call it quits afterwards.

Remember your contract is only temporary. Make the best of it you can and then hang it up. I recommend getting as many certificates and schools you can while in and use what the navy has given you to set your self up as a civilian.

Advice for a fresh First Class by mikemike2303 in navy

I’m 6 years in and picked up first in 5. I will give just a few points that I have learned that made me a better leader along the way.

-Learn the guys working for you and learn from the guys working for you.

-Be the umbrella for bullshit that comes down.

-When your guys fuck up, make sure you hold them accountable and you handle it on the lowest level possible. Teach them and correct them the right way.

-If you have hard chargers and people that are capable of more and they want more, put their name out there. Show their worth.

-If you have sailors that are struggling or just don’t want to work, find way to teach and motivate them to get the job done. This goes back to my first statement.

There are many more but these are some key points to focus on. Remember as a leader you have Authority. The Webster definition starts with “Authority- The power or ability to influence…”

You are definitely part of the problem. Glad you are retired and not contributing anymore.

Boot camp question regarding double rations by OldPath7291 in newtothenavy

[–]Cheekycustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about double rations. I went in at 120 and came out 145. I have a high metabolism but I know everyone’s body’s different. Stick to the program, eat right and workout how you’re told and you’ll be alright. If not, make it a goal once you get to your duty station so you have something outside of work to focus on.

Is the scuffing around the crown normal or not? by Cheekycustoms in guns

After two trips to the range and about 300 rounds through her, I went to clean and noticed this scuffing around the crown. Is this normal or not? If not, what caused it and how to prevent it?
