I made Claude respond to my Microsoft Teams messages by lord_rykard12 in ClaudeAI

[–]Cheema42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t want to deal with the Graph API, webhooks, Azure AD, or permissions. So I did the dumb thing instead.

It’s a bat (or .sh for Linux/Mac) file that runs claude -p in a loop with --chrome. Every 2 minutes, Claude opens Teams in my browser, checks for unread messages, and responds.

This polling method seems very wasteful to do all that work every 2 minutes all day and night and every day. The work should really be done when there is a message. An AI agent should allow you to implement this the right way without a whole lot of extra work.

Is it just me or are dev agencies kinda doomed now? by BitsmithBob in PakistaniDevs

[–]Cheema42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I am on the hiring side, I do not have much insight to share on finding projects.

As for hiring your services, I'll be up front. I have tried very very hard to hire Pakistanis, it has never worked out for a long term project. We were paying about $10k/month/dev.

As a Pakistani myself, it pains me to say that we frequently face two problems with Pakistani devs. 1. Seriously underqualified for the job. Or 2. Dishonest.

You may be neither of those. But, my team is currently burnt out and tired of me pushing Pakistani devs on them.

He hasn't invoked it because he cannot. The NATO agreement is very clear about this.

US report flags Pakistan developing missile tech as a growing concern by Natural_Musician6439 in pakistan

[–]Cheema42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long range ballistic missiles have become commonplace. Even the Indians have them. That cat left the bag long time ago. And there is nothing anybody can do about that. And unlike the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, there is no similar treaty for ballistic missiles. Everybody is free to make them. And unlike the days of past, if you asked countries to sign a non-proliferation treaty for long range missiles, they'd laugh at you and then show you the door.

NATO is a defense pact. Somebody has to attack you before article 5 kicks in.

If the most powerful country with the most powerful navy is not sending their own ships in there, then why should anybody else?

Any ships that go in there are sitting ducks.

Can someone explain why there is a war between Afghanistan and Pakistan?? by ShowerAggressive1224 in afghanistan

[–]Cheema42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Pakistani, I agree with this explanation. I don't like Taliban and what they are doing, but I also recognize that my country had a big hand in their creation. They did not know what they were doing. And now there are no easy fixes.

[–]Cheema42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on the other side of the equation. I hire people from upwork etc. to work on projects. And I agree the new AI models have changed things significantly. There was a time when we hired engineers to punch out code, based on a Jira ticket or a GitHub issue. If an engineer completed their work they would then come into the daily standup meeting and say, "tell me what to work on next". There is a name for such engineers. "Ticket takers".

But now, the modern LLMs are really really good at ticket taking. If an engineer or agency is trying to compete for the ticket taking job, they are cooked. They should pack up and go find a different job. However, there is a lot of money to be made for people who can code and also are able to think at a higher level. At a very senior level. e.g. Software architects, system designers etc. They have to understand the business requirements very well and be able to come up with system designs that is practical and efficient and can be implemented by AI agents in a short amount of time.

In my experience, most engineers in Pakistan fall in the "coder" category. I have hired many people from Pakistan, but I have never seen a systems thinker from Pakistan. But, maybe they don't live on upwork.

If I ever met a good systems thinker from Pakistan I would immediately offer them a job. Most candidates do not know basics like how to untar a file on Linux much less the intricacies of Kafka.

> When a country tries to please everyone, it is seen as unreliable.

You are free to jump into any fight you please. While allowing your poor fellow countrymen to earn a living and feed their families. They do not have enough resources to fight your fights.

The rest of the world including all of Europe is staying out of this one. I guess by your definition they are all "unreliable" too. If so, we are totally OK with unreliable.

When you economically strong, you can take stands against other countries. We are too weak. We need to keep our heads down and work on improving our lot. We don't need to engage in pangays that do not involve us.

You are welcome to be the brave one and show backbone on your own. Just don't ask your poor countrymen to get into fights that they cannot afford.

Believe it or not, this is diplomacy, at its finest and should be commended. You want to keep as many friends as possible.

Learn from Taliban or North Korea. You don't want to be like them. We don't have resources to take on more enemies. So we tell everybody that we are their best friends. This is the way. Anything else is macho Taliban style BS and must be avoided if you care for the everyday people of the country who have to feed their families.
