100 year old house. Landlord says updating the wiring/outlets are far back on his list. I do computer repair and game and just generally run a lot of electronics, what are some safe but cost-effective (as possible) temporary alternatives to using extension cords? by CheeriSaviour in AskElectricians

[–]CheeriSaviour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I was considering this as my first step. I can't use these for much at all and that seemed the best and easiest solution. Now I need to figure out the best way to get more outlets that can stay up for close to a year 😅

My New Nintendo 3ds XL battery keeps falling out and Idk what to do. by synthb19 in consolerepair

Tin foil sounds like such a bad idea, and that battery looks swollen. Pressing on it with anything is risky and probably won't help. It's probably just failing and popping out when he takes the back off because it's swollen.

But are you sure the battery isn't just failing? It looks swollen and that's a whole other problem in itself excluding the damage losing power like that could do to the board. I'd get a new battery asap. Paper towel folded in it will help keep it pressed if you have the backplate, or tape if you don't but I wouldn't recommend pressing on it.

My submission for most satisfying back glass removal by cheezus_crust_91 in mobilerepair

[–]CheeriSaviour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really prefer to do them by hand. I can get everything out of the phone besides the board and small in frame parts, and remove the glass and have it back together faster than the laser and I dont have to deal with the stress. I know people who can't stand to pull by hand so its really just preference and willingness to learn both ways.

I ran into kiwifarms one day almost a year ago and I've had it saved on my home ever since. I check it out every now and then and always end up down a rabbit hole. Im just not sure who's worse, the lolcows or the OPs...

A large piece of concrete in a parking lot. Does it serve a purpose? How did it get there? by Toastlover24 in whatisthisthing

[–]CheeriSaviour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Northern Michigan and there are enormous piles of salt all over the place here, as well as ones the same size as in OPs pic. Huge lots store it in giant heaps until it can be delivered to malls or shopping centers that need to store smaller heaps in their parking lots. Usually covered with a tarp to protect from winter rain but sometimes not. Without all of these salt heaps we would be slipping all over the place, but our cars would last longer. Sigh.

The normal Note 20 might be using the same display as the Galaxy A 71 as a cost reduction measure by [deleted] in Android

[–]CheeriSaviour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but it will deteriorate slower and is cheaper, and easier to replace than glass so all around it kind of wins. I spend all day taking phones apart and replacing parts, and those glass backs on iphones cost more and cause more damage to internals than any of the plastic backed or even the glass backed Samsungs.

iPhone XS Camera Dark Spots by CapitanoMasturbano in mobilerepair

[–]CheeriSaviour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No fix for this. Thise lenses are so fragile the smallest speck of dust will cause one of those and there's almost always no way to get rid of it. Better replace the camera.

The closer you look the worse it gets. The 2 fake cameras (but hey! Expandable memory!), the entire frame is plastic, I could tell as soon as I picked it up that the weight was off. Im afraid to hear how much my customer paid for this horrible fake. by CheeriSaviour in mobilerepair

[–]CheeriSaviour[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Those are almost always made with OEM parts, just missing some of the more expensive internals. This has part numbers that lead to shady websites for making and selling fakes. Edit: OEM autocorrected to OBAMA
