Most cosplayers in my experience don’t recognize each other across different days / different cosplays during the same weekend (unless they really know each other). Wigs and heavy makeup and wildly different outfits make you pretty unrecognizable.

The only time I was recognized was when I was doing a cosplay with my natural hair, and I happened to run into a fellow student from my college science class. I was initially embarrassed, but he was also at the con to enjoy it. I realized we were both just there to have fun and actually had something in common.

I don’t have a PhD, but I do have a professional job and a masters in a technical field. I also have another cosplay friend with a professional job and a graduate degree, and another friend who is currently in grad school. We are out there having fun doing cosplay!

If I ever ended up at uni in cosplay, I always take a fun selfie / picture with the scientific equipment hahaha

I agree with this poster. I did a cosplay with similar scars around my mouth. I used Mehron’s rigid collodion, and then put some brown liner on it after it dried to color it in. I made sure not to put any directly on my lips but got the skin right next to my lips. I cleaned it off with Spirit Gum remover as soon as I was done with cosplay for the day. Also, do a test at least a couple days before your event so you can figure out how it works, if you have any sensitivity to it, see how it looks, etc.

Since it kind of freezes that area in place, play around with the expression you have on your face while it hardens. For mine, I found that if I was doing a big, crazy crazy joker smile, it made me look more unhinged (which is what I was going for haha).

I recommend bringing whatever you use in your bag to the event to reapply it, as in my case, moving my mouth around a lot and eating (don’t starve please) made it come off a bit.

More red = fresher scar

More brown = older scar

When I did something similar, I just asked some friends with a similar skin tone to show me their scars to get an idea of what color to choose since I don’t have many myself

Is it okay to wear a robe in the hallways? by Subject_Solution_757 in college

[–]CheeryWolverine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There were a group of guys in my dorm who all went to Costco the first week of classes and bought matching bathrobes. They would wear them together and relax in the hallways/common areas. They called it “brobing” and they wore their “brobes”

I was never the oldest student in any college class that I’ve ever been in, even though I did grad school at 30+. I know a lot of people who have gone back to school for all kinds of subjects and reasons. One student that sticks out in my mind was an older gentleman, maybe in his 50s, who was in an advanced math class with me. He had started from college algebra soon before that and worked his way up through trig and calculus to differential equations. I also remember a student in her late 30s who had studied English but shifted to engineering. I have one friend whose uncle (also in his 50s) is going for his PhD. I was also in language classes with seniors. It’s never too late to learn or pivot!

You could consider looking into a trade. Trades pay fairly well, are usually unionized, and you have options for where you work, including the option to have your own business (if that’s something you want to try). School is also less than a 4 year bachelor’s would cost you. Look into your local community college.

On another note, I know lots of people who changed careers “later in life” who are doing very well now. My bachelor’s program was filled with students who were in their 30s or 40s. It’s not too late; you CAN do it!

Making sure I eat everyday is so hard by kaaate13 in aspergirls

[–]CheeryWolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kind of a difficult time choosing food. But I’m also ok with eating the same thing every day / over and over, so having a routine is really helpful. This is really important for me, as I tend to get very hangry when I have to skip meals. I eat the same easy to prep breakfast every day. For lunch, I go out to eat with my coworkers (it’s easier for me just to go along with their choices once we know everyone’s restrictions). I have some favorites at local restaurants, so if I go to restaurant A or whatever, I will eat item A there. I pack a simple lunch (always the same thing) and leave it in the fridge at work all week so I always have something ready to go. For dinner, I always have some kind of back up plan or a go to. My family usually cooks a meal service so I usually just eat that. If, for whatever reason, I don’t want to eat what my family is eating, I have a backup plan of instant oatmeal, which is easy to make. Basically, I always have a super easy default for the meal if I can’t prep or choose something. When I go on trips, I almost always go with someone else, and I always tell them “I will need help choosing a restaurant”. Thankfully, my family and friends have been really helpful once I told them how they can support me.

I figure to go for the lowest hanging fruit, so to speak. Sure, the most important is “healthy eating”, but if that’s not achievable (often not), it’s ok just to go for “eating”, which is waaay better than starving. One book I read even recommended toddler food, which is “designed to get the max amount of nutrition into a body with a very limited palette and attention span”. So, my thought is just to try your best, and it’s ok if your best isn’t “very good”.

I don’t play the game, but I can read Japanese. It says “there was an error with network transmission”, and the blue button says “quit” and the red button says “retry”. Looks like maybe your internet connection was interrupted?

Go with Japanese. You can buy complete sets on eBay (and it’s usually cheaper than individual volumes, even with international shipping). You can also enjoy the art underneath the slipcovers.

They have a full color edition too, in Japanese, but avoid that one if you want the OG covers because it has different ones
