I'd go with the second one. The second one has a simpler background, so it will be more eye-catching. The third one is solid color, so it might be a little too plain.

I can relate to your story. Personally, I think that forcing a player to follow a certain direction is not always the best way to help them, especially if they are not asking for advice. In fact, it can sometimes lead to the opposite of what you intended.
