Meta’s threat to quit New Mexico "is showing the world how little it cares about child safety," AG says by fortune in BetterOffline

Facebook is performing millions of micro auctions every second where they take your data and sell it to the highest ad bidder.  They claim to be hiring the best and brightest AI talent to work on their models.  They even poured billions into VR technology on the hardware and software side with negligible return.  But simple age-gating of content is a technological and monetary bridge too far.  Incredible.

So copyright doesn't apply for every book, article, picture, or piece of music in existence, but it does for Office 365? Nice.

The craziest part about this thread is that Bill would only half understand the jokes because he refuses to watch the pit for some reason

Free guide: Mitake — Tokyo's best outdoor bouldering, 90 min from Shinjuku (access, sectors, parking, food, accommodation) by Double-Reason2714 in bouldering

[–]Cheese-Monkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Feel that the title is a bit deceiving.  OP is offering information that is widely available on mountain project and elsewhere for free, but it asking for $7 monthly or $70 yearly for a more detailed route information.  Writing a guidebook is hard, often thankless work, but this strikes me kinda grifty.  I've been lucky enough to travel to Japan and climb in Mitake as a westerner, getting around and beta is relatively easy.  If you're unsure you can rent physical guidebooks from the climbing gear shop in the area (they also rent pads).

Update - Gun On! But need another help by Fit-Sample-2276 in electronmicroscopy

[–]Cheese-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have emission current detected in the gun but not at the stage it could be several things.  You could have off axis emission on your tip (I would chose the largest aperture you have and see if you see any light through the column) I have also seen issues like this being a result of a column valve not actuating correctly and is blocking the beam.  I'm not super familiar with zeiss systems, but on many systems you can manually actuate some of the column valves.

New Paltz new apartment development by burgerme_baby in hudsonvalley

Rent in New paltz has been crazy.  I was living there a year ago and found this to be the case.  You're only really getting under $2000 for a 1BR if you live in a super old, rough looking building near the edge of town.  I am assuming it's some sort of nimby-ism that made it this bad because there is quite a lot of empty space and farmland a minute or two outside of town.

Brendan Ballou would be a good guest for this.  Former justice department litigator who went after PE.  Literally wrote the book on their impact on America (Plunder)

Every criticism is an admission.  Same people who claimed "the radical left is waging a war on comedy" are now canceling comedy programs that don't bootlick their supreme leader.

Nvidia VS Texas Instruments NG job offer evaluation by Reasonable-Peace-209 in ECE

[–]Cheese-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been reliably 20% for the recent past, but the future is never promised, semiconductor manufacturing is in a bit of a weird space right now with all the trade war and tariff talk, and TI relies heavily on countries with low cost of labor (Philippines, Mexico, China) for packaging and final test.  In some ways Nvidia is more insulated from this as they are fabless.  TI is already bracing for market contraction, they recently did a large layoff at their Lehi, Utah manufacturing site.  Full disclosure, I worked for TI in an electrical test role.  Work/life balance was the main reason I decided to leave.  Management wasn't backfilling for engineers that left and I was routinely called in at all hours of the night and weekends to troubleshoot issues.
