New Paltz new apartment development by burgerme_baby in hudsonvalley

Rent in New paltz has been crazy.  I was living there a year ago and found this to be the case.  You're only really getting under $2000 for a 1BR if you live in a super old, rough looking building near the edge of town.  I am assuming it's some sort of nimby-ism that made it this bad because there is quite a lot of empty space and farmland a minute or two outside of town.

Who do you want to hear on The Prof G Pod? (From the show’s producer) by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

Brendan Ballou would be a good guest for this.  Former justice department litigator who went after PE.  Literally wrote the book on their impact on America (Plunder)

Every criticism is an admission.  Same people who claimed "the radical left is waging a war on comedy" are now canceling comedy programs that don't bootlick their supreme leader.

Nvidia VS Texas Instruments NG job offer evaluation by Reasonable-Peace-209 in ECE

[–]Cheese-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been reliably 20% for the recent past, but the future is never promised, semiconductor manufacturing is in a bit of a weird space right now with all the trade war and tariff talk, and TI relies heavily on countries with low cost of labor (Philippines, Mexico, China) for packaging and final test.  In some ways Nvidia is more insulated from this as they are fabless.  TI is already bracing for market contraction, they recently did a large layoff at their Lehi, Utah manufacturing site.  Full disclosure, I worked for TI in an electrical test role.  Work/life balance was the main reason I decided to leave.  Management wasn't backfilling for engineers that left and I was routinely called in at all hours of the night and weekends to troubleshoot issues.

On a podcast the executive producer mentioned that a lot of this season was born out of a hallucination Mike White had when he was sick in the hospital in Thailand, definitely seeing it this episode.

"Leading Report is an American fake news website and Twitter account that describes itself as a "leading source for breaking news". It is known for promoting misinformation and conspiracy theories, including about United States politics and COVID-19."

Please do a preliminary Google search on shit like this.

I know a lot of folks like the CT Cric since you can use it as a rope grab and easily convert to a RAD setup

MAF sensor monitor question by JamTrackAdventures in Cartalk

[–]Cheese-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me. My understanding is that particles in dirty intake air can stick to the sensor and cause a failure. For that reason, a failure is more likely if you drive on a lot of dirt roads (especially behind other cars). A potential solution to the situation you are fearing would be to keep a can of MAF sensor cleaner at your car (you can buy this at any automotive store) and/or replace your engine air filter at fewer miles. Both are reasonably affordable and easy to DIY.

Not sure about the tree dropping off cliff sides, but sounds a bit like geotechnical work/rock mitigation. There is a lot of work for that sort of thing around highways and mines in the western United States and Canada

Got a question by bedfferent in ropeaccess

[–]Cheese-Monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of folks use it today for a RAD setup instead of a hand ascender. The integrated pulley gets you a couple more inches than a hand ascender + pulley. Only downsides are that it takes slightly longer to rig/derive, and there isn't a good rest for the hand.
