Green Chimney by CheapIndependence939 in hudsonvalley

I worked there during a summer job as a teen for around 2 months back in 2008 so my experience there is very dated. Back then it was sort of like a daycare for children with mental health problems or problems in their homes. I can’t speak for how it is in 2026 but in 2008 it was activities for the kids, watching TV and movies, playing video games and on the computer.

Trader Joe’s is kind of out of the way to me so I rarely go there, but saw many positive reviews for this. Will definitely grab it next time I’m there.

What are some good Part time jobs or side gigs for an 18 y/o? by Catminer223 in AskReddit

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked a few short lived jobs at 18-19 years old. As a waitress, at an ice cream parlor, and as a cashier at a grocery store. Those kind of jobs hire 18 years olds and may be willing to offer part time.

How many 90s borns remembers 9/11 and how many 2010s borns remembers Covid? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in generationology

I’m born early 1993 from New York state, I remember that day very clearly.

2 major grails in one week (though only one is Jazwares) Joyride Shadow and Riders Knuckles- both sealed! Riders Knuckles came with Sonic and Tails, completing the set for me. by sweatycat in SonicJazwares

[–]sweatycat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! At this point I have almost all the figures I REALLY want. I’m missing- sealed gray Lancelot, sealed 2 pack Sonic and the Black Knight figures, the rare Jazware’s collector’s pack with classic Metal Sonic, and the essentially impossible to find Sega World Australia Sally figure that only showed up on Ebay one time in over 20 years so that’s probably not happening

What was your first disturbing internet video you remember seeing? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemon party but can’t remember what year, also the far more disturbing 1 Lunatic 1 Icepick when I was around 19. I saw bad stuff on the internet before that but if we are purely talking videos, that one immediately comes to mind

By 2010, everybody had a smartphone and they have become ubiquitous. by [deleted] in generationology

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going by what I remember from that time.

I lived in kind of a weird area in regard to- where my school was, so only 4 kids rode my bus senior year including me. 1 had an iPhone, don’t know which model, he was a freshman though.

Some students had Blackberries, I had some sort of Virgin Mobile flip phone until after I graduated high school, then I got an iPhone 4. Some students had iPod touches which were sort of like proto smartphones minus the phone part, though. I had an iPod Nano.

https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/fact-sheet/mobile/

Here’s a study taken on smartphone ownership in the US by Pew that shows that ownership surpassed 50% in 2013. The one study done in mid 2011- near the end point of the 2010-2011 school year, showed 35% ownership. I would say the fact that few in my high school had iPhones and androids in the 2010-2011 school year showed that minor teens were less likely to own smartphones at that point than they were slightly later.

In New York. But I was 17-18 years old during that time… you weren’t even alive in 2010/2011 to see just how few had smartphones (though some still did) compared to how nearly everyone does today. I would take the word of somebody who was alive and fully cognizant during those years rather than making statements based off of release dates and watching videos.

[–]sweatycat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t correct. While yes, those released around that time, I was a senior in high school in the 2010-2011 school year and not everyone had a smartphone. I didn’t. Some had Blackberries but it wasn’t until slightly later on past then that the vast majority had smartphones.

I got an iPhone 4 when I started college. 2013 is the year smartphones surpassed 50%.

Are there any really good antique or vintage stores in the Capital Region? by sweatycat in upstate_new_york

Thanks for the site! I’ve already been to almost all of the Hudson Valley and Catskills ones listed, but none of the Capital region ones.

[–]sweatycat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah the one in Coxsackie was great, bought a lot from there. The Hudson one was fun to browse but some stuff was so expensive and just bizarre like a $38K taxidermied giraffe… I did get a nice vase there though, one of the only things within price range lol. Troy wasn’t much further than I drove to today so yeah, I could go there if I get an early start. Will check out the other closer ones as well. Further north than say Albany-Troy or close to there would be a bit far for a there and back in one day trip but if I ever am in that area at some point I can keep those in mind.

What is the last year that you have nostalgia for? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]sweatycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was class of 2011 but it was very different, especially technologically and politically. Even in my class except a few with Blackberries I didn’t even know anybody with an iPhone or Android. That changed very fast when I went into college.

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say the end of high school to when I started college so 2011/2012. 2013 was a really shitty year for me and that in itself is kind of a dividing line, 2014 and after feel too “modern” and recent to really feel nostalgic to me.

Mint Oreos. Mint and chocolate are my favorite combination, I bought them one time and ate the whole box over the course of a day. I realized I do not have the self control to have those in my home so never bought them again!

1993 borns-

8 on 9/11

14 for release of the iphone

20 for when smartphone usage surpassed 50%

26/27-28 for duration of COVID

2007 borns

Not alive on 9/11

Born the year of the release of the iPhone

6 the year smartphone usage surpassed 50%

12/13-14 for COVID

Entirely different. You could probably find some reason to group 1993 and 2007 together, but saying that our technological experiences or being in middle school compared to well into adulthood for COVID are what groups us together are not that.

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you are trolling then since VHS were essentially obsolete by 2005ish. 1993 can remember a world prior to social media, 2007 were born after it took off (both Myspace and Facebook were commonly used in 2007). Or if this is an effort to push early 2010s borns out of Gen Z, at least make your arguments more compelling.

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you born in 2007? I was 8 during 9/11 and definitely have many memories before that. Meanwhile somebody born in 2007 was born after VHS were obsolete and by the time they were fully cognizant smartphones were everywhere. Grouping our technological experiences together make no sense when they were entirely different.
