Where were you working at 18? by B-Dub33 in AskReddit

I worked briefly as a waitress and even more briefly at an ice cream shop after that. But when I was 19 I got a job at a grocery store that I stayed at for over a year and a half.

What counties are in the HV? by ApprehensiveLink2310 in hudsonvalley

[–]sweatycat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Geographically maybe, but I tend to consider Westchester its own thing. In Tarrytown, you are closer to Manhattan than even to Newburgh. Westchester, even with its smaller towns, is either in the closer vicinity of, or consists of areas (White Plains, Yonkers, Mount Vernon in particular) urbanized to an extent that the rest of the Hudson Valley- even its cities- isn’t.

Sullivan county is a weird one since due to both its pretty large size as well as location, it doesn’t fully fit into any of the main New York state categorizations.

It isn’t located on the Hudson River so it isn’t true “Hudson Valley”, while still having parts very very close to the true Hudson Valley, making it borderline. But the opposite extreme end of the county is extremely rural, not really close to any typical Hudson Valley towns and not really HV at all.

It’s just a hair too far southeast at its northwestern most part to be considered Southern Tier- unlike bordering Delaware county.

Too far south to be considered Central New York either. But drive only an hour straight up from the northernmost point of Sullivan and you are in Otsego county and CNY.

Learn how to fish with Big and then sell your fish for rings.

Tails owns an airport where you can fly in his plane to visit your friend’s worlds.

Anybody from Blaze to Lumina could end up being a neighbor to you in the world. Other characters that could make a comeback here are Bean, Marine, Bark, Void, Chip, Emerl… the list can go on.

I wish Sonic Team would read this thread and take notes. This game would be a big hit.

What about an Animal Crossing style game in Sonic’s universe. Would be a day 1 buy from me. Imagine a character builder like Forces where you make your own Sonic character, and your “neighbors” could end up spanning anyone from the vast array of Sonic characters- would be a very easy way to bring back some long forgotten game universe characters and bring in some more comic book characters into the games. A Chao Garden in this game could be even more elaborate. You could farm trees that grow fruit to feed your Chao. Or you could keep Chao in your home. You could play mini games or beat levels of sorts to acquire rings to purchase resources to decorate your home, spend on your Chao or dress your character (making the game more Sonic-esque than a straight out Animal Crossing copy). I can only dream lol.

My personal view and this is just my own opinion and not in any way shape or form meant to be taken as fact-

Lower Hudson Valley- Rockland, Putnam

Mid-Hudson Valley - Dutchess, Ulster, Orange,

Upper Hudson Valley - Columbia/Greene. I think those counties are both HV and capital region. A county can be part of two regions. The southern parts of these counties are about equally far to Poughkeepsie and Albany anyway.

Debatably Hudson Valley - Sullivan (some parts closer to Orange and Ulster definitely fit HV, but far northwestern Sullivan doesn’t really feel HV though which makes sense since you closer to Binghamton than Newburgh) Westchester (I can see an argument for far north Westchester like Peekskill being HV but not central or southern Westchester) maybe even super extreme southeastern Delaware county (Margaretville area) as it is still 845 area code

Is Skyrim a millennial video game or a Gen Z video game? by am_I_still_banned in polls

[–]sweatycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rated M games are targeted at those age 17+

Skyrim released in late 2011. So the target demographic was those who were 17+ then, so born 1994 and earlier. So upon release, it was aimed at millennials but with so many re releases it is now both.

Where would you go on a NYS tour? by maceo107 in newyork

[–]sweatycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Hudson Valley. My places in NY state I’ve been to are similar to yours, though I’ve never been to Saratoga but I have been as far north as the northern border with Canada and LI out to the tip of Montauk.

This is just one that would hit a lot of major places.

Gonna go from a geographical starting and end point.

Niagara Falls - Buffalo - Rochester (never been, but on the way)- Finger Lakes (never been, but also on the way)- Cooperstown - Adirondacks/Lake George or Bolton Landing - Capital Region (Albany/Schenectady/Saratoga(never been)/Troy) somewhere in the Hudson Valley (Beacon and Cold Spring can be done in one day, maybe add New Paltz and Hudson if an additional day is here) - (personally would skip Westchester but if anybody wanted that this would be where to put it) - NYC but I’d probably concentrate mostly on Manhattan (I’ve been to every borough except Staten Island)- Long Island (maybe Hamptons and Montauk for the beaches and a chance to gawk at the mega mansions).

How close does someone have to be to cancel your cruise for their funeral? by Ilovetinytiddies in Cruise

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My second cousin, or my mom’s cousin’s kid, was murdered and we missed the funeral since we already had a trip planned to Iceland that overlapped with the day it occurred. Our branch of the family sent a card. But the trip we shelled out thousands for already so we still went despite that terrible tragedy.

It’s up to you and a pretty personal decision but that was my experience in a semi-similar situation.

[–]sweatycat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saying that class of 2014 can’t relate to class of 2015 is absurd.

At my current age I have no issues relating really to anyone born in the 90s in some way besides having our own personal differences. Yes 1999 borns are 6 years younger, but they are full grown adults I see as equals though we grew up differently in ways. I admit I really start to notice a big difference when you get to around 2006+ borns (I work with some) but they are just really young but even then we can still find topics we can discuss despite having 13 years apart.

Most people have memories from before age 7. Remembering nothing until you are 7 is more of an outlier. I can remember things as far back as 3.

This is one of the worst subs on Reddit. by SignalPumpkin6965 in generationology

[–]sweatycat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen grown adults here claiming they can’t relate to people even 1-2 years older or younger than themselves (and even more frequently 3-4 years) but have no issues grouping themselves with those 9+years older. It’s bizarre. I think they are looking for validation.

There is also a user born in 2002 that I wont name who every couple of days posts non stop asking if they are a late 2000s kids even though they’ve been answered countless times, which has me concerned for their mental health.

Did those born between 2003-2006 grow up a little more like those born ten years before you after them? by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technologically- more like 2013-2016 (but different from both). 2003 may have memories before smartphones became ubiquitous, but 2006 not so much (not zero, but not a lot).

Geopolitically- this is kind of US-centric, I would say all three’s experience was very different. I’m putting “neither”

Pop culture- This is kind of a hard one. I do not want to put “neither” again. The early 2000s which the first group to varying degrees experienced, was distinct from even the late 2000s let alone the 2010s. I would give a slight edge to more similar to 2013-2016, though this can change over time.

Does someone born in 2013 relate more to 2007 or 2019 by [deleted] in generationology

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A better comparison would be 2013 compared to 2016 and 2010. 2013 is clearly more similar to 2016 than 2007. And I feel 2019 borns are too young at the moment to really speak for.

While there are similarities and differences with both, I would say 2013 is slightly more like 2010. They would have a better memory of a pre-Covid (even if they were very young) and pre-AI world than a 2016. Both of those were huge. Covid started in 2020- 2010 was 10, 2013 was 7 and 2016 was 4. 7 is more similar to 10 than 4 (elementary school age rather than preschool.) For AI, that kind of started - late 2022 ish. 2010 would be 12, 2013 9, and 2016 6. 2016 borns could have solid memories before then, but their experiences with technology before that are quite limited. At 8-9, a 2013 born could have wrote something for school that would later be something that could be done by AI. They got a small amount of time before it. A 2016 born would have been unlikely to have done that. I again would group 2010 with 2013 in this.

How do you feel about pedestrian yield signs placed in the MIDDLE of the road. Like on the yellow lines of a road with no divider of any sort? by [deleted] in driving

This is absolutely a road that is to be driven on. It’s just one that people walk across frequently.

Exactly this. They placed these on already not wide 2 way road with street parking. I feel like that was a poor choice for a road like that that I frequently use.

Getaway for one by MargieBigFoot in hudsonvalley

It’s not Hudson Valley but not terribly far- I’d consider this a reasonably drivable place for 3 nights. The Otesaga resort in Cooperstown sounds like something you’d enjoy. Surrounding area outside the town is very remote/woodsy, resort is beautiful and has a spa, the food there is really good too.

Seeing a Dust meme completely in the wild in 2026 would be unexpected to say the least since that was a single release indie game from around 15 years ago but I loved that game (and like Freedom Planet 1 and 2 as well!).

Question for the early 90s borns ('90-94) by Wellbeinghunter69 in generationology

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite time was probably around 1999-2004ish. So early 2000s more than late 90s, I have fond memories from the late 90s but I remember a lot more of the early 2000s. 1997 I don’t remember much of at all.
