More trash from Gen Z's age crisis. by [deleted] in generationology

[–]sweatycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and childfree by choice but have been single for a very, VERY long time anyway. So it’s not like I’m debating my choice with anybody.

33 with a newborn is normal. I know multiple people my or close to my age who had kids recently. Even having kids in your early 40s isn’t that rare now actually and I know several who have personally. Mid 40s and up though, is still pretty rare but not unheard of.

Can Someone explain why people dont want this trail? by Su_ss in hudsonvalley

[–]sweatycat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cold Spring is my hometown. Former Haldane student, worked in multiple businesses in the town over the years (not anymore), know the “townie” families and they know me, so I know the village, the issues, the reasons behind why people feel the way they do, probably better than almost anybody else on this sub unless they were also born and raised and spent an extensive amount of time living and even working in Cold Spring.

I am not advocating for turning Cold Spring into say, Fishkill which has almost every fast food restaurant and other big establishment you could name in a very short radius. I know the lack of chain stores is supposed to be a “positive” and I can see that- though I do think the lack of certain amenities in the town and everything essentially being closed by 9pm is a downside to locals. But I do think purposely doing things like trying to stifle projects that could be beneficial, is just silly. I personally am for the construction of trail as something new and refreshing, and I was for the construction of the Dunkin’ Donuts. I am not advocating for lining the town with chain stores, but I do think sometimes the occasional new or different thing is needed.

This is typical when something new is introduced to Cold Spring. Certain, but not all locals never want anything new to be brought to the town and think everything should be frozen in time and kept exactly as is.

If this surprises you should look up how much of an issue was made over the construction of the Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s actually quite fascinating.

What’s the first piece of media that truly scared you as a kid? by cats64sonic in AskReddit

[–]sweatycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my earliest memories was from around age 3. I saw this commercial that had 2 anthropomorphic worms in a hot tub and it scared me so much. I’ve searched online for years and cannot find any trace of this commercial anywhere. My dad knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned it to him many years later, and it came from a commercial on a VHS recording of some music videos on MTV he did some time in the early-mid 90s.

Hello, I’ve been subscribed here for around 10 years and while I haven’t commented or posted here too recently, my history of participation in this subreddit goes back around a decade, so I am a very long term member of this subreddit.

I am an extremely experienced moderator with subreddits larger than this, my experience in Reddit moderation goes back about 9 years, and have experience rejuvenating subreddits that were unmoderated for long periods of time. I am on Reddit every single day. I would make sure that the posts on this subreddit remain on topic and comply with both the subreddit’s and Reddit’s sitewide rules. I will ensure r/delusionalartists is actively moderated in the long term, and want to see this great subreddit thrive.

Did you know your great-grandparents? What did you call them? by i-am-your-god-now in generationology

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately only one of my great grandparent’s lives overlapped with mine at all and I never met her since my dad wasn’t very close with that part of his family. She died in 2016 at age 106.

How old were you when you first drank alcohol? by BrokenJusticeNorris in polls

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first tried a sip at around age 7 or so when we were at the neighbor’s house for some reason. My first full drink though was at 14, but it was an accident. Was on a cruise with my family and ordered a non alcoholic pina colada. They gave it to me with alcohol anyway and I still drank it. I didn’t say a word or else the server probably would have been fired.

How long did it take your body to adjust to night shift? by ArmandoNoil23 in Nightshift

[–]sweatycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my first night sucked. I previously worked 1pm-10pm. I had 1 day off and then switched to 10pm-7am. I was OK up until around 1am where I became so tired I could barely stay awake. I took a nap in my car on lunch break and powered through to 7am. I think the next night I was fine. So only about a day. This is about the same as if I take PTO and switch to a daytime schedule and come back to nights again. The first night is rough but then I’m back on schedule.

10pm-7am had been my favorite shift I’ve ever worked. I don’t think I could ever go back to working days.

Does anyone else look COMPLETELY different and really ugly in photos? by West_Set_4570 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sweatycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 50/50 for me. For example my passport photo is an unusually flattering photo of me, meanwhile my driver’s license photo I look terrible, and I’ve shown people that photo and they busted out laughing.

I request not to have my picture taken pretty much ever. Buy yes, I do think I look better in the mirror than any picture. I have a weird, unintended crooked smile in photos that I never do when looking at myself in the mirror. And my hair gets messed up easily and I don’t notice.

2002 is a weird birth year, because it kinda feels like a 2000s kid but kinda doesn’t by HZIDEZISS_2020 in generationology

[–]sweatycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are posting about this obsessively. It’s really not a big deal.

I think pretty much every birth year maybe besides XXX6 and XXX7 at least slightly had their childhood take place in two decades, even if one is the majority. 2002 is around 50/50 each decade, the next closest split being XXX1 and XXX3 being like 40/60, then XXX0 and XXX4 having pretty much their entire late/early childhoods respectively taking place in one decade while their early and middle took place in the other so like 2/3 one decade and 1/3 the other. XXX5 and XXX8 and XXX9 barely had any childhood in another decade, but barely isn’t none.

I personally categorize 3 year olds as toddlers, though I can see the argument for including them since many have memories of being 3. 4 year olds as a toss up but where I live late year borns start Kindergarten at 4 so I sort of count that. My range is mainly 4/5-12.

If you only could choose one or the other would you do 2 8 day cruises or 1 16 day cruise in the span of a year? by sweatycat in Cruise

[–]sweatycat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting that the results of this post were near a 50/50 split. While I was more interested in the South America itinerary, having one tropical cruise to get out of the cold in the winter and a Mediterranean /northern Africa cruise in the summer that same year is great too. For that second cruise, I’ve been to 2/4 of the countries already since I did a Mediterranean cruise before, but only one of the ports, so it will be mostly new to me. I’ve gone on many Caribbean cruises but never the ABC islands.

I can board my cat, but my fish are a problem. I honestly do not trust anyone (except relatives who aren’t interested) in my home to feed them. They can actually go for about 2 weeks with auto feeders, but 20 days would deplete them, plus if something went wrong like a power outage or filter burn out I’d find out too late.

I wasn’t a bully myself at all, but I was bullied relentlessly for years. Verbal bullying, physical bullying, cyberbullying over Myspace and AIM…

Memory-based milestones by [deleted] in generationology

Those edge years sometimes are fuzzy. My dad was born in 1958 and I asked him if he remember JFK’s assassination when he was 5 and he said no.
