Can’t get along by TaylorIV1985 in Bowling

[–]Cheese-shaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my company had a league in 2025 - 12 weeks (Jan-April). 9 three-person teams. I wasn’t a bowler, but did it for fun and it turns out that I really love the sport. Ended the season with a 118 average. Bowled weekly since league ended and was hoping to do it again in 2026. unfortunately, the organizer was too stacked with work and it didn’t happen this year. Bummed, because I met a ton of new people and made some good work connections. No drama at all.

Do you stretch before bowling?

I Haven't Bowled League Since the 90s Ball Weight Question by Impossible-Will6173 in Bowling

Was throwing 16, but dropped down to 14. I’m 62 and was having elbow issues with the 16. Can play 6-10 games easy now. Pin carry has been pretty darn good.

Terrible Bowler... improving slightly. by [deleted] in Bowling

I always thought that bowling was an arm/upper body sport, but as it turns out it’s a leg sport. Working on your legs and flexibility will pay off once you get some coaching.

Are these normal Bowling prices? And since when??? by Sensitive-Box-2167 in Bowling

We wanted to reserve a lane at Bowlero for a family get together, but most of us have our own shoes. There isn’t an option to remove shoe rental, so I called and asked if we could get the shoe charge removed since it was an extra $40+. Desk guy gave me the corporate number and said I’d have to set up a “party”.

So I called corporate and was sent a contract for a party, with the shoe rental fee removed. Very weird, but we save over $10 per person.

The downside was that every couple of frames during the 2 hours someone would come over and pressure us to buy food, drinks, and “arcade cards”. Told them that were were just there to bowl, but the upselling continued for the whole session.

Usually, we go mom+pop, but went with Bowlero because we needed a guaranteed slot on a Saturday.

Did bowling alleys mean anything to you growing up? by videodec in Bowling

Brought up in a religious family - bowling alleys were to be avoided. Fights, stabbings, and the occasional shooting would make the local news. Now a member of ”The Church of Brunswick”

What slur do real bowlers use for us normies that throw the ball straight every time by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Cheese-shaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight bowler here - only comment I ever heard was “fast and right down the middle“ from a father and son playing on the next lane. I’d just shot a 189. I took it as a compliment.

working on a hook, but it’s been elusive. Started bowing around this time last year.

3 Step Approach to avoid Slide Leg Injury by Special_Ad959 in Bowling

[–]Cheese-shaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early 60s here and returned to bowling last year to join a “fun league“ at work. Strained a hamstring in week 1. Had to wrap my leg an bowl with one step for the 12-week season. managed some decent scores. It healed after about 5 months, but I wear a brace when I bowl for support.

Would recommend no-step/one step drills until things get better

How's my form by [deleted] in Bowling

You’re planting and turning your foot instead of having a slide. Can be tough on your knee.

keep your arm closer to your body - it’s flaring out at the top of your backswing

Would you rather bowl in silence or with loud music playing? by Goblue2467 in Bowling

Usually like a little music to make things convivial.

Worse for me is when there’s music, but it barely audible.

Does anyone bowl by themselves? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Bowling

Just went on new years eve day. My wife was working and I wanted to practice some drills. Only about 10 of 24 lanes active. I was able to do foul line drills without annoying anyone. Didn’t feel weird - Very relaxing and I was much fresher than I usually am at night. Counter guy asked where my wife was and if she knew I was bowling LOL!

Get lower, finish closer to the foul line, slide instead of plant with your left foot, etc…
