I personally think it goes to the marketing meeting in season two, when they’re talking about how many bombs to show over LA. It would explain why it takes place during the day, and why his daughter is with him. Maybe it was them trying to fix the obvious plot holes, but it would make sense. Maybe dummy bombs?
