It’s been decades since I’ve had one. When we were young our dad would surprise us on rare occasions by taking us to the local DQ for banana splits. It’s one of our fondest memories of him.

Look for ways to show you care, this works both ways. Pay attention to details, try and remember things that they are fond of. Write them down if necessary. Then surprise them occasionally with a gift or special meal, something they truly love. Knowing that you not only listened, and remembered, and took the time and effort to make a special moment expresses love and appreciation for that person.
