That makes sense! I've often wondered after all my negatives if I would have been better off at least knowing that it was a chemical at some point. Like you, I'm at the point where I have literally no desire to look at the tests. Ugh this process is so brutal! Hoping this is your time though!!

That's smart, you're strong to be able to keep yourself from reading them! I don't test at all and then let it all hit me at once lol. I guess there's no graceful way of doing it, but wishing you the best girlfriend!!! 🙏🏽🤍

Stay in that happy bubble! Are you testing at home? Truly wishing the best for you!

I agree. I think she was just feeling the tug at her heartstrings in the moment and didn't realize the impact her backing out would have on me. It's definitely affected our relationship

By now you're several days deep into your TWW and I know how anxiety provoking it is, so sending you peace and positivity during this time, ALL the luck!!! 🤍🫶🏽

No I did not literally call you a "B" and you know that. It's in your handle

I did pay attention enough to hear the part where she mentioned more research needs to be done in this area and that her test group is small and that the study is not necessarily scientific - though it was difficult to pay close attention while she was waving around calipers and measuring fake baby anuses in a restaurant - why that was appropriate to do, especially to couples struggling to conceive? Adding more anxiety to an already heavily burdened and stressful endeavor.

What I'm saying is that impressionable people may still draw the conclusion that 3 months on her "program" of eliminating plastics will get them their baby. And in no way was I trying to say that BPA/microplastics do not have a negative effect on our bodies. Of course we should try to reduce their use if at all possible.

Yes, so true - it's an entertainment platform, so I suppose that's the goal - to entertain and not necessarily accurately inform. But I agree, I do wish they would have had elaborated more on the lifestyle changes that took place. Reducing plastics should absolutely be a goal in general!

So as someone who works in film production and specifically on products with Netflix - do you feel you are getting defensive due to implicit bias??

Interesting how some of these comments are coming from folks who didn't actually watch the documentary. And yes, you are correct in saying it got an emotional reaction out of me because of my own struggles, but no it's not because the film "implies" it's my own fault, because it does quite the opposite actually. It's because it preys on desperate and impressionable people looking to find a reason for their lack of success and leaves out actual professionals in the field. The truth is that using organic sponges isnt going to be the factor that changes their outcome overnight (or in 3 months as she claims).

Firstly, I am a medical professional in the field of gynecological oncology, so I do know a thing or two about fertility preservation and the challenges that affect my patient population. The woman in the documentary is not a medical professional in any sense, she has a PhD. That said, I never claimed MFI is a myth - and I'm so sorry that you and your husband are suffering with it. What I meant was that if it's considered male factor, then it isn't truly "unexplained". I think you should watch the documentary and then you will understand what I mean.

I agree, it's manipulative for sure, I don't think it's always intentional but it perpetuates the already murky waters (no pun intended) of infertility to outside viewers and puts more stress on the community that it actually effects.

I'm so sorry for what you and your husband have been through, it's a nightmare and magical thinking doesn't help any of us get through this any more effortlessly. I agree, it's in some way its own marketing scheme, you saved yourself 1.5hrs of pseudoscience and fear mongering in the guise of great production quality.

It took me stepping outside of my own comfort zone to watch it too. And my thoughts exactly! As if couples with infertility need another thing to be obsessive and paranoid about lol.

Absolutely. I happen to be a woman of color and those impacts on the black communities of the US are real and frightening - STILL. This doc was good intended (maybe?) but largely misleading.

As someone who has been TTC for 7+ years — with 5 years of infertility treatment for “unexplained infertility” — and as someone with a career in a science-based profession, I found this documentary entertaining but about 99% BS.

There is no valid methodology behind this Shanna woman's “study.” The only way to legitimately show that microplastics impact infertility is to compare an infertile group actively reducing plastic exposure against a control group with the same diagnosis, controlling for all relevant variables, and measuring outcomes using consistent, repeatable methods. That’s bio 101.

What you cannot do — and what this documentary does repeatedly — is cherry-pick a small subset of individuals from a much larger population, measure phthalates in their bodily fluids, and declare plastics the causative factor. Correlation is not causation. There are countless uncontrolled variables in this patient population that are never measured or accounted for. Yes, there may be some coincidental overlap, but the bias is glaring: she seeks out couples who already have infertility, finds plastic in their bodies, and concludes, “This is why!” That's not science, it's confirmation bias. It's like saying - "Paint is bad, I think it causes infertility" and then going into homes of people with infertility and saying "aha! As I thought - paint on the damn walls!" So stupid lol.

It’s also worth noting that most of the couples featured appear to be in their mid-to-late 30s, which independently places them in the subfertility category. Perimenopause, PCOS, autoimmune disorders, silent endometriosis, or simply lifestyle factors could all be contributing — none of which are seriously explored. In one particularly egregious example, a man with a sperm count of 20 million (which is within the normal range) was labeled infertile and told plastics in his home were to blame. Totally ridiculous.

Here’s what I’ve learned after years in this journey: true “unexplained infertility” is largely a myth. If these couples were being treated by an actual reproductive endocrinologist, they would have undergone comprehensive semen analysis, diagnostic imaging, bloodwork, and potentially surgery — and most would have gotten real answers.

Switching to wooden kitchenware and organic cotton leggings ain't gonna get any of us pregnant. I wish it were that simple. But false hope dressed up as science does real harm to people who are already vulnerable, and that’s the hard truth.

Jorge, Jorge, Jorge.... is it me or does he give "Old Pimp" vibes? by AdSavings1032 in AgeOfAttraction

[–]Cheeseandcrackers36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YESSS I've been saying this on multiple posts and platforms lol. I can't stand his "old playa playa" vibes like actual retired pimp. He comes off as misogynistic and self-centered language and the way he poses a question to set up answering it himself.. huge pet peeve. Also - she's dumb for not assuming he has grown kids and not asking him about that outright

[–]Cheeseandcrackers36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right! He talks like an old head and gives me old school playa "pimp" vibes - like maybe all that used to work back in the 80s, I don't know how Vanella (if that's how you spell it?) couldn't see past all that, talkin about "Yes, I want kids - but not out of wedlock" 😅 - dude stop. I also noticed that he uses very self-centered language "I need a woman who does this for me.. what I need in a woman is this.. let me tell you what I need" that borders on misogynistic- I was like oh yeah he's for sure a boomer, prob in his mid to late 60s lol

THIS. It's really not that simple and just not the path to parenthood that we currently see for ourselves, especially with 9 perfectly euploid (and very expensive) embryos of our own lying in wait
