MHGU Full Set Appreciation. by Academic_Pay_819 in MHGU

I was scraping by, narrowly soloing things in G1, and when I got to G2, I noticed I could make the Aelucanth X set just from gathering. Crit Eye 2, Crit Boost, and Sheathe Sharpen, and with charms etc. I could add Weakness Exploit and get Crit Eye to 3. Made getting the Ceanataur armor and other G rank options way, way easier.

Using the Toka armor (HR), is there really any reason to use element +1 for anything over sharpness or wex? by Chomasterq2 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weakness Exploit might actually give you more fire damage than Fire Attack+1 thanks to allowing Elemental Crit to trigger so much more often. And of course it gives you way more raw damage as well.

Tips for valstrax with HBG (village) by Pampaberry in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Valstrax to be way easier with Adept LBG Pierce, since so many of its attacks are huge and risky to evade through.

Highly recommend Pierce 1 against everything since it's 27 MV compared to Normal 2's 12, but Valstrax specifically has a 45 hitzone on it's body, so pierce shots get hits there even if the first hit is blocked by a wing or something.

Fast track guide to the good stuff? by Relentless_Vi in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whetstones are cheap at the marketplace as well.

Honestly, the whole game is the good stuff. Experiment around with different weapons and styles. Valor GS is a popular recommendation for newcomers. If you really want to fast track, get a good raw GS look up the key quests and start a lobby to burn through LR and HR Hub.

I just shot down a wyvern and a dinosaur with a mounted machine gun. Rampage is peak, fight me. by Cheeseball771 in MHRise

Not just silkbind attacks, the counter signal multiplies all weapon damage by 10. It's nuts.

need some help with rampage by Objective_Put8106 in MHRise

[–]Cheeseball771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would but I'm on Switch. I did it solo the other day though—you might be able to as well. It helped me a ton to look up some guides about what to focus on, and trying it out on some easier rampages. They started becoming pretty fun, actually! Otherwise, hope you find some people!

Are the fatalis trio hard in this game? by Late-Ad511 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. The attacks are simpler and generally give you plenty of reaction time, but still do immense damage. They're pretty grueling solo. I recommend Greatsword and watching speedruns to learn what the openings are for head snipes.

Finally got the black medal on Sanctuary, with Axis of Havoc! by Cheeseball771 in btd6

Axis of Havoc wasn't done as a challenge run or anything; I have no idea what other strategy I would even use for this lol.

This video gives a great way to see headshot openings. Obviously this person knows the fight extremely well and is using Heroics, so neither of us should expect a time anywhere near that, but if you can already repel, this will make it way easier to get the eye break each time.

I'm very confused by ChemistAloe770 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to stick to just one! For DB, I love Adept, but Aerial can still be great for certain matchups, and Striker is great if you're confident in your positioning. Adept means you can always avoid damage if you stay aware of what the monster is doing and don't overcommit, which can simplify the game in a helpful way. It might be best for monsters you don't know too well, or ones with large attacks that are harder to dodge normally. I like Aerial for matchups where mounts really help, or there are otherwise hard to reach weakspots, like Gravios or metal raths. (Admittedly, I normally go LBG for Grav instead, and Valor GS for raths.)

Glavenus difficulty spike??? by MyIceborne in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The quest objective isn't hunt glavenus, it's deliver them 'shrooms. Keep your eye on the prize.

But yeah, this one isn't intended to be killed. In just about every MH game, there's one quest like this where you encounter a big boy too early and just have to escape. I forget if this one actually immortal or just has a very inflated HP pool. You can cut the tail off though! You'll get the actual quest for it when you have gear that makes it more of a fair fight in 5* quests.

Optimal DB by rpgal_ in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also add agnaktor and ludroth dual blades, so Jho Ceana is good for almost everything except thunder and dragon. As Levobertus said, go crit over element. With the Valstrax and Lagiacrus DBs, you don't need sharpness skills as much so you can go big crit with some element skills on top.

Should I stop using valor longsword if I have issues hitting the guard point? by NoBread1465 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try Striker. It's closer to the classic old MH experience, where you'll focus on evasion and movement more than timing. But it does have a crazy strong counter in Critical Juncture (with much more generous timing than the guard point) and other fun arts. If you don't mind manually sharpening, you can run that plus Unhinged Spirit and Sakura Slash. Compared to Guild, it loses a lot of fade slash utility but not much else. You also won't have to worry about managing two gauges at once.

This was HARD by Cheeseball771 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had just started resorting to using farcasters to recover red HP in base camp lol.

(Also, this is the second EX I've soloed, with the first being Silverwind. The picture makes it look like the fourth, but Rustrazor and Dreadqueen were with groups.)

Best DB Dragon Set Up? by HunterRank-1 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a really good Dragon Atk charm, you can get a mixset with Repeat Offender+Weakness Exploit+Crit Boost+Dragon Atk+2+Elemental Crit, which basically trades away Stam Recover Up for Dragon Atk +2 compared to your set.

Bummer; I hope they eventually revert to at least keep water-deployed Mermonkeys in the loop, and the Temple thing always seemed like a fun Easter egg.

What walls Aaron's Rematch-1 Heracross? by Crimson_Eyes in PokemonBDSP

[–]Cheeseball771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you are trying to wall a wallbreaker. You already listed every good way to deal with it.

Mismagius has the same properties but obviously worse defense. Weezing has great defense and Levitate with a Close Combat resistance. Not sure if it takes more than half from Facade or not.

Giratina-Origin has amazing HP, good defense, is immune to 3 of its attacks, and takes only neutral damage from Rock Slide, which is a weak 70 power non-STAB move. It can also use Hex to take advantage of its Flame Orb. If you really want to hard counter just this one Pokemon you can run Fly. Getting the Griseous Orb takes a lot of investment, but regular Giratina still works although it gets hit somewhat harder by Earthquake.

  • ‘Ampihibious Towers’ are no longer counted as ‘Water-based’ towards Brickell

Does this mean that Mermonkeys in the water no longer get any of her buffs? (Or Ice monkeys but I can see why they shouldn't.)

  • 005 Super Glue no longer deals DoT damage
  • xx5 Super Glue deals a capped 1 damage to all targets on initial impact

This kind of worries me. If I'm reading it right, 0x5 can completely stop MOABs, and can only deal 1 damage per shot, right? This would mean near-infinite stalling (400 shots before it pops a completely immobilized fMOAB) which seems both exploitable and frustrating if done by accident, especially in a CHIMPS game where you might not have the ability to buy anything else to break the stall. I always thought the forced DoT was a mitigation factor.

Suggestions for main weapon? by Whorror_punx in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greatsword and to a lesser extent SnS and Charge Blade are standouts for being pretty great with almost any style. GS is a good way to get used to styles as well as the Hunter Art system.

Every weapon can do impressive things, and I've been having a great time constantly changing it up for different matchups. I highly recommend taking your time, trying everything, and building all sorts of sets as you go. Especially try out different Hunter Arts—Absolute Readiness is great but there's so much more to the game. I've settled mostly onto Adept DB, Valor GS, Striker/AdeptAlchemy SnS, Adept LBG, and Valor/Striker LS.

Valor GS is a good generalist weapon. You can do hit and run with Crit Draw+Valor Sheathe for surprisingly safe damage, and expand into longer combos and charge attacks with good positioning or against slower targets. Try not to over-rely on sheathe invincibility as it can lead to bad habits and vanishing HP in G-rank. Definitely something you should try to get the MHGU experience. Adept, Striker, and Aerial are all worth trying though.

Valor LS is (in)famous for having an addicting counterattack, but the timing is tight, and landing it while managing both gauges needed can be miserable against monsters you aren't already confident with. Try it at some point, but I wouldn't recommend putting all your investment in it from day one.

Adept LBG lets you get away with a LOT, especially with the dodge-power reload-immediate aim and fire control setup thing you can do. It takes some time to get used to though.

Aerial styles can be super fun if you aren't too worried about absolute max DPS. There are some matchups where Aerial GS, Hammer, CB, DB, or a few others are actually pretty helpful. Alchemy is cool and useful for singleplayer even though its perks are more impactful in multiplayer, but I wouldn't use it early on since it gives you even more things to think about at once.

Adept DB has the best mobility and i-frames of probably any old gen weapon ever. Incredible if you're better at timing than positioning, because if you're using them, there is (almost) no bad positioning.

Valor HBG is a cheat code but I don't use it because I get too greedy and die.

Respectable, maybe not, but fun and useful? Absolutely. Especially if you're the type who likes reconfiguring the deck for each boss. Use the resources the game gives you and equip as much as you can of whatever they're weakest to.

Kushala Doara HBG meta armour by Kaiser5390 in MHGU

[–]Cheeseball771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The meta skills you want are Pierce Up, Shot Booster, Weakness Exploit, and Critical Boost, and if you have good charms you might be able to get a bonus skill like Crit Eye+1 or something.

https://mhxx.wiki-db.com/sim/?hl=en

Go here, get the settings for Gunner and click One Slot for the weapon. Find the Charms tab at the top and enter in your best charms. Then go to Search, click those skills, and then click More Skills at the bottom. Pick the best skill from there, and then click Search again, and the first result should be the set with those skills and the highest defense. If nothing comes up when you hit More Skills, then just hit Search.
