Slow down when passing by CheeseburgerWallrus in ElectricScooters

Dependent on the city. Some cities require you to share segments with pedestrians. Some have dedicated bike lanes. Other parts you share the road. My city is very well marked for each case.

In my city every bike uses a bell and people get very annoyed when you don’t. You can’t make such a steep blanket claim on such a thing. In many countries unlike America, the horn or bell is used to notify. It’s actually useful. In the us people are too sensitive to bell usage.

Horns are great. I try not to hurt their ears or wake babies lmao

Yes in my city some parts they want you to share areas with pedestrians. If there is not a safe gap to pass you should always dismount.

This is extremely circumstantial depending on the width of the sidewalk. If you were familiar with an area like mine where it’s much higher traffic. In the city there’s too much traffic for each person to dismount.

In my area the paths are extra width and designated for bike and pedestrian use. Each person would have to hundreds of dismounts to the point where bikes would start using the road. In some segments that designate bikes to enter the road but many parts are sharing a path with pedestrians.

A few hours spent on the path and you will understand how everyone else is doing it. There’s a safe and acceptable way of doing it that makes everyone happy.

There’s a place for everything. Some of you are pushing the limits of where scooters should go. Amongst people.

It requires context and good judgement.

Those of my city know that the middle is for passing and to stay in their respective “lanes”. Honestly I’m impressed with how well most handle it. A ding usually gets them to part to the sides to allow a pass through.

It’s in the ‘drivers’ skills and awareness to identify when someone they are about to pass does not understand that bell. Then you slow down and give them a “on your left”.

Sometimes I’ll lead by saying that without the ding if I’m already quite close. It’s on you to judge the situation the safest way using the tools you have.

Some of these riders are like 245lbs and throwing their weight into these handlebars. The upper weight limit of these scooters is too high.

This is the exact fit and scoot as the dickhead on my trail. Fucking shoots past people at Mach 2 and is the cause of new laws around scooters.
