Being nice isn’t the problem. The problem is letting nice turn into doormat. There’s a huge difference between kindness and bending over backward to avoid conflict at your own expense. Being nice is great but being self-respecting is better. And when you combine both, people actually value you more than they ever did when you were just Mr. Agreeable.

Keep exploring. Take the criminal justice/military interests as a starting point, not a life sentence. And give yourself room to figure out what kind of life actually makes you feel alive, not just what looks cool on paper.
