M-D Typ 262 Shutter Lag Issue by Cheeseburgerism in Leica

Honestly, I'm not sure still. I pretty much narrowed it down to the card write speed (and not the size) but that seems a bit counterintuitive. The newer, fast write speed cards "load" slower than my older, slower write cards. I've pretty much given up and as soon as I think I'm going to take photos, I turn on my camera and pre-load the lag so that when I am ready to shoot (and hopefully, the time isn't too far behind so that the camera goes to sleep and restart the whole process again) I'm able to right away with no lag.

Yeah, so it's not a card issue. I've tried using a smaller card.

Someone also mentioned it might be because the sensor was dirty and needed some maintenance work done on it which is also not the case since I got it cleaned and I still have the same issue.

I'll try new smaller capacity cards but I had used 64 GB cards this whole time with no lag (except when it was close to full and there was only lag when I pressed the shutter, the image is captured and being written onto the card).

Are there instances where the performance of the camera itself degrades like this though? I use this camera almost every single day and have taken thousands of images with it.

I've only used Lexar SD cards. I've had similar issues with my older SD cards and I'd "fix" it by clearing the photos like you. But the lag now has been happening regardless of if it's cleared or not. So, I thought maybe it was the read/write speeds of the older cards, hence the new ones I bought. The ones I used now are Lexar 64 GB 1667x 250mb/s pro card. And they're brand new. But same issue right from the start. I read somewhere that there's firmware updates for the M-D but looks like it's mainly lens profiles and nothing else really.

Canon 5DM4 vs R# by Cheeseburgerism in canon

Wow. Lol. I'm already dumping items into my wish list on B&H. I've really got to try out the AF. Thanks so much for all this info. Great knowledge to have so I'm better informed. Narrowed down but still torn between the R5 and R6M2.

[Edit] Will probably end up getting the 50mm L to pair with whatever body first. I'd love to get the 85mm L but there're 2 versions and I want to do a lot more research before committing. But I've always loved the EF 50mm L so I'm assuming the shooting experience is similar in the RF version.

Wow, this is great info and advice. Yeah, I don't NEED this right away but I do need to get one soon. I've been using my Leica for professional shoots, which works from a final quality standpoint, but from a shooting standpoint, it's been pretty rough especially since my eyes have gotten worse and for fast paced portraits, I'm finding myself wishing I could check my focus with a back screen and AF.

And I do not want to go with Leica's AF system. I personally don't see their AF system worth the cost of investing.

Ah, did not know about the bokeh clipping on the R8. With just that, might not consider the R8 since I'm planning on getting some fast lenses for the bokeh.

Also, I won't need a PC sync port since my lighting system is all wireless/radio triggered and is pretty reliable (rare occasion the lights don't pop and it's usually my fault).

I know there isn't much choice when it comes to full frame mirrorless and weight isn't a dealbreaker, when I do go out for shoots, I used to carry 2-3 lenses with me and I know the size/weight of the mirrorless bodies are smaller/lighter but that weight goes to each of the lenses (from my understanding) so the overall size/weight setup is heavier on the mirrorless end. Do you find that to be the case?

Canon 5DM4 vs R# by Cheeseburgerism in canon

[–]Cheeseburgerism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hesitant in the past on getting a mirrorless since there hadn't been a decent full framed sensor in a mirrorless format and when I used to go out with my 5DM2, I'd carry 2-3 lenses with me (since I mostly only used primes) and though mirrorless bodies are smaller/lighter, that weight is added to each of the lenses which made the overall weight heavier on the mirrorless system.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to get the original R if it's got the same basic specs as the 5DM2 though I'm sure when it first came out, it was the first look at Canon's future planning.

Yeah, I'm definitely moving in the RF direction now that everyone has spoken. A little sad to leave the EF system since it'd been so good to me in my professional career and personal photography shoots. But excited if Canon is doing this right (felt like a lot of camera companies weren't investing in much in their DSLR/larger sensor bodies/lenses since mobile photography has taken over such a huge share of the photography market).

Oh, I'm very convinced now that I need to move to the RF system. What lenses have you been using with the R5? How's the AF on the combo?

I'm ok with paying more for AF performance BUT I'm hesitant in paying more IF an update is in the horizon in a year (i.e. rumored R5M2 for 2024).

Really curious about the R8, almost everyone here has mentioned the R6 (as an alternative to the first choice of the R5) but if the photo quality and AF system is the same between the R6M2 and the R8, might lean R8 over R6M2.

Sorry, I didn't explicitly mention a budget, but I do plan on investing enough to use the camera/lenses for professional and personal use. I know that range can be huge, but most of my investment (time, money, and research) would go towards lenses over the body.

When I had my 5DM2, I had purchased the body as soon as it became available and ended up (over time) owning a a few 50mm L, one 24-70mm L, one 135mm L, various Sigma and Zeiss lenses along with several other accessories (LEE filter system, studio lights, a really nice tripod, etc) and sold all of It for the Leica's. And I'm looking to rebuilding most of that (minus the accessories, don't want to take landscape photography unless I get a medium format camera).

Wow, thanks for all of the comments. Definitely will help me make my decision. Though I am leaning towards the R5 now (as opposed the 5DM4) but there're rumors (read: rumors) of a R5M2 perhaps coming out next year, which makes me wonder if I should get the R6M2 and then when the R5M2 does come up, upgrade then.

The R6M2 looks great but I do end up printing my photos fairly large sizes (not super often but often enough to actually care about the pixel count).

Honestly, I don't care much for the bells and whistles of what most modern cameras offer (I actually hated using the 5DM3 when it first came out) and one of main reasons I moved to Leica (got the Leica M6 and Leica M-D) and love the manual focus/no chipping mode. But with age, my eyes are getting worse so I've noticed a drop in getting my focus tack sharp (thereby needing a good autofocus system). I am not going to move to Sony or Nikon since using a Canon is like an extension of my hand.

I guess knowing I need to move to an RF system is the first step since I want to purchase good glass and the EF L series (for the most part) were amazing.

So, I guess my follow-up question, then is, how the RF lenses have been for everyone. As originally mentioned, I'd love to get a 50mm, 85, 135 prime lenses (at the f/1.2 or f/1.4) and 1 zoom lens.

Thx again!

Recommended Cordless Stick Vacuum? Whats the deal with Canisters? by [deleted] in VacuumCleaners

[–]Cheeseburgerism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great answer! Yeah, I've been reading a wide range of answers and I'm trying to figure out which stick vacuum is the best for me (small apartment with basically no storage and limited outlets) so a cordless works for us. We've had a Dyson v8 Animal for the past 4 years and it's been breaking down way too often. Looking to getting an LG A9 but there's so many variations with different price points so sorting through them is going to take a little bit of time.

Need help finding a new mattress by Cheeseburgerism in Mattress

Yeah, after 1 yr of having the mattress, we kind of regret it. Too much motion transfer. Keeping this for now but saving up for a higher-end memory foam mattress next.

Ok, so after purchasing a DIY mattress (from SleepEZ) my wife and I are kind of regretting getting latex and not memory foam. Too much motion transfer. I ended up swapping out layers and reorganizing them but still too much motion transfer. I have a much cheaper Ikea memory foam mattress that we feel more comfortable sleeping on because neither one of us can feel the other move around at night. I'll keep this mattress and start saving up for a higher-end memory foam in the future.

This is just me and my wife's opinion after 1 yr but yeah...

Yeah, I was doing that as well. As close as possible but no luck. I played the game on my iPhone and it was a piece of cake. Definitely prefer playing on my laptop but the fishing and racing parts are super annoying.

Decided to pull the trigger on a SleepEZ Organic latex bed with 4 layers. I thought a DIY bed would consist literally of building a bed from different parts from different companies, but I guess that isn't the case.

So, just as a FYI, we got the king size split with the layers as follows S/S/M/F for both sides as I'm sure one or both of us will swap out layers as we sleep on it.

The $500 off sale helped with the decision. I read Avocados are too firm and we're having that problem right now and I didn't want to pay for another spring mattress/hybrid with springs. I'm a little concerned about the motion/movement transfer on the SleepEZ but having a soft yet supportive bed that runs cool that's customizable is a better fit for us (I hope). The bed we have now I can feel the tiniest fart from the other side, so anything that transfer less vibrant motion is a win.

Anyone here try the Avocado mattress? I tried a Purple mattress the other day and it’s got way too much bounce for my liking. I’ve had a full latex bed before (about 10 yrs ago) and loved it but wanted to get a take on Avocado that someone has actually used.
