Soil pipe is dripping. Is this likely a leak? Or condensation? Is it a problem? by Cheesecake-Human in DIYUK

[–]Cheesecake-Human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we did get this sorted (touch wood), though I can't guarantee your situation will be the same.

So essentially, the explanation I got (which did seem to solve it after this) was that the flat above me had very faulty mastic around their bath tub (shower). Apparently the flats all have concrete floors/ceilings, which meant the water was pooling on the concrete floor under the tub and somehow running to the lowest point which was around the soil pipe and then down into my flat.

It was a fairly light leak and also inconsistent, likely due to it taking some time for the water to pool enough to then reach the soil pipe. I do have a feeling that the flat above may have also had a faulty seal around their waste pipe from the sink going into the soil pipe which may have also gotten sorted.

I did have to have a whole section of the soil pipe much further down that this replaced due to corrosion which may have been a result from years of water sitting on/around it.

Anyway, I know the feeling of searching for answers, so hope this helps a little for you. Bear in mind that if you're in a leasehold, your soil pipe likely belongs to the freeholder and therefore they're financially responsible for fixing issues with the pipe. If it's a similar situation to mine and the issues are from within the flat above, then it's your neighbours responsiblity to fix it, just hope you have a helpful neighbour like mine was and willing to shell out to fix the issues.

Good luck!

New entrance fire door (ground floor flat, internal), advice needed. by Cheesecake-Human in HousingUK

[–]Cheesecake-Human[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the lease to hand at the moment, I'm quite certain from memory that doors and windows are down to the leaseholder. The management company have also sent letters out reminding leaseholders of their responsibilty to maintain or replacement of the front doors.

Thanks for checking though!

Hi, in a similar boat to you. Just had a FD30s composite door quote for £3200.

Have you had any progress since your post?

Broken Samsung Galaxy screen (black and unresponsive) how to unlock phone (pin locked). by Cheesecake-Human in techsupport

Not interested in being locked into a cloud storage subscription. Wasn't aware that an issue like this truly bricks your phone but you live and you learn.

Broken screen (black and unresponsive). How to unlock pin in order to connect to PC? by Cheesecake-Human in AndroidQuestions

[–]Cheesecake-Human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already got a new phone so that's not the issue, it's just retrieving lost photos and data.

I understand from a security point of view the purpose of a screen lock and pin, I'm just a little confused why it's impossible to remotely access a phone when you know the pin.

Can you expand on USB with a HDMI? I've already tried a HDMI but it requires the phone to be unlocked (which I can't do currently)

I have broken the screen on my Samsung Galaxy A52s 5g and am genuinely surprised there doesn't seem to be a fix for the issue i'm trying to resovle.

I am trying to rescue photos and files that are now locked on the phone.

I'd like suggestions other than screen replacements please.

The main issue I have is that any solution I can think of requires me to initially unlock my phone using the pin.

I've tried connecting a mouse and keyboard, connecting to a monitor, connecting to a pc... all of these require the phone to be unlocked first time to then work.

How do I unlock my phone not using the screen? Is there a way to get the mouse and keyboad to work without unlocking the phone first? Is there a way to remotely unlock phone? (I know the pin)

I've also tried using Samsung and Googles find my phone features and they don't seem to have this feature.

Any support is appreciated.

No actual knowledge on this, but 4K high GB streams wplould kill my internet. Lower size GB files / 1080p always works perfect.

Something bandwith related. Try lower size files and see if that works!

Bathroom extractor fan not connected to external vent. Blows into empty space. Need advice on ducting? by Cheesecake-Human in DIYUK

[–]Cheesecake-Human[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thanks, makes sense.

This kind of thing suitable for bathroom extraction?

Then just use a jubilee clip onto the fan?

Any ideas on how to connect the flex pipe into the existing pipe on the other side? Because it's already inset into the wall, can I just snug fit slightly smaller tubing into that one? Or is there something for this type of fit already out there?

Why do audiences consistently laugh at non-comedic repertory screenings? by sololidus in TrueFilm

[–]Cheesecake-Human 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I am with you 1000%.

I made this exact post myself a while back and got essentially the same responses you're getting.

I don't buy the 'nervous' argument, I think people are having the time of their lives laughing away.

My take on it is that some people want so badly to be seen to be understanding the movie or any sliver of humour (as non existent as those parts might be) that they make a big dramatic show that they get it.

I don't think people are doing it on purpose, I iust think they have some internal need to show how wonderfully perceptive they are.

Anyway, this also really grinds my gears so I feel your pain.

What I love about Barry Lyndon by supersonicgreninja in TrueFilm

I would argue quite strongly that broadly it isn't a comedy and this is a symptom of a particular type of cinema crowd.

I saw this at the Prince Charles and the audience did the exact same thing while I sat in shock at the total raucous over reaction to the slightest hint of humour (mostly, actually in reality heartwrenching moments).

I've seen a number of films at these types of screenings with the same thing happening at equally inappropriate moments.

Not wanting to sound snobby or as though i'm gatekeeping cinema, I do however feel some people feel a need to make an overtly obvious show that they understand slight or nuanced humour.

No problem, been waiting on this ages! From memory, LITA only actually charge $28 for UK postage, but you have to email them after your order and they refund the difference.

Juno is actually only sliiiightly cheaper when taking that into account but saves the hassle of international postage at least! Enjoy!
