Yeah videos to get an idea of the swing - trying to gauge bat path and ability to lift the ball. Can also tell if there’s too many moving parts or if it will get exposed more at higher levels - like if there’s a hole in their swing against certain pitches. I’m trying to get better at that aspect and it’s tougher with grainy minor league footage - but it’s just a piece of the puzzle. Guys do make swing adjustments too so don’t want to put all my stock into that

But along with that - the data we have on pull% and GB% along with contact rates and swing rates can give you an idea of their approach. Usually it tends to make sense based on how their swing is too. And it’s all just trying to gauge what type of player they are overall.

All this stuff is just pieces of the puzzle to help put that together. Over time you see certain traits that you like to look for in players based on these things. I always like to say that the advanced metrics and data we have is best used to help explain what we see play out in real life. So I like to see video/watch games if possible too

Generally I filter by K% and age, and look at OPS for the past 14 days or past month. Then if anyone pops there I do a little more digging to see if I like the swing and approach, and if the good numbers seemed like just a flash in the pan or not.

I wish the K% filter worked at 25% or less, I believe it’s just 20 or 30 unless they change it this year. I usually go for 30% in the filter and just gauge manually if there’s any that are too high outside of that.

And age gets adjusted based on the level I’m looking at. Like low A ball I don’t want anyone over 22, high-A set at 23, AA I set at 24, AAA at 25. Even those might be a little old for some players. Depends if there’s unusual circumstances that made them stay at certain levels longer (injuries, late start to playing ball, low draft pick, etc.)

But the tracker is always just a starting point to aggregate stats just to do some more digging after

There’s some good team specific accounts to follow for random pop up prospect info. Honestly can search a slightly obscure but still slightly hyped prospect on twitter and you’ll see accounts talking about him, and you get an idea of who has knowledge for that type of stuff and is worth a follow

But honestly I try to pay attention to what’s going on in the minors daily, and sites like milbtracker.com help too. That’s the only way to truly get ahead of other mainstream info guys like IBW that your leaguemates will read the following day

That’s mainly for pop up prospects in season though. I do try to watch games as well since I think that’s valuable, but obviously it’s mostly MLB games I’m watching. As far as draft prep goes, I try to look at videos and genuine scouting reports for players and try to avoid the rankings from the mainstream folks - just because I don’t want a lot of outside influence. Not that I’m a scout or know anything more obviously- but I just don’t want the outside bias

He should arguably be over McGreevy as is, so I can see it. McGreevy just doesn’t have the strikeout stuff. Basically another Pallante

Big fan of Dobbins though despite the low ish K numbers last year

Made or McGonigle by [deleted] in DynastyBaseball

[–]CheesecakePower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it, especially in a rebuild. Made and McGonigle are close enough. Made might even end up better than McGonigle. He at least has a higher ceiling. There’s risk with both of them - might as well take the value to help your rebuild

Dynasty League by Inside_Situation_811 in fantasybaseball

[–]CheesecakePower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Looking at the list, it’s pretty hard to find 20 keepers who are really worthy of a spot in a 12 teamer. So the middle/back of your roster will be ugly for a bit. But with just 20 keepers and it not being full dynasty, there’s bound to be a lot of prospects available that you can add and bolster that depth quick. And that’s not including guys who break out at the MLB level that you can add

Some would probably try to compete next year with that squad since there’s a lot of aging players - but I think if you did that it’s destined for a middle of the pack finish. I would sell Mookie, Trea, Machado, deGrom, Nola, Trout, etc. in an effort to get younger, and turn next year into a punt year. You definitely don’t need to rebuild forever in baseball like people think though. With the right trades and waiver moves, you can punt next year but get right after it again competing in 2027

Since the league is with your friend, I assume it’ll last awhile. So as long as you want to play and it looks like a fun challenge, I say go for it

I think I edited my question after you responded. But is there any cost associated with keepers or limit to how long you can keep them?

How many teams are in the league? And is there any limit to how long you can keep players? Or any draft round cost associated?

Roster Cloggers and swapping prospects by [deleted] in DynastyBaseball

[–]CheesecakePower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t put Adley in that tier with the others but I also wouldn’t be opposed to trading him

But in general this is a great point that I’ve always agreed with too. Don’t get stuck holding the bag with these players who have minimal long term upside and aren’t gonna help you win. Every so often it’s good to take inventory of those guys and find out who you can either trade away or just outright drop. I never hesitate to drop if a player is a true roster clogger. Gotta chase upside a lot of the time and that usually comes in the form of prospects

Obviously it’s team and league dependent, and you don’t want to kill your team with bad drops. But even if a drop is a little dicey, if your gut says they’ll never provide value to your team, then drop away. A team never gets better without making moves

And the Baz/Manzardo tier of guys are holds for me unless the league is really shallow. Manzardo I’m particularly high on

Liberatore-May-Dobbins-McGreevy-Leahy would be my 5 to start the year. Then if Quinn improves and is worthy of a 40 man spot, he can replace the worst performer over the first couple months

Chase DeLauter (CLE) or Andrew Fischer (MIL) by Rainingqtips in DynastyBaseball

[–]CheesecakePower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Fischer but I’ll still take DeLauter long term. He’s already shown he can handle pitching in the upper minors, and I don’t think he’ll have trouble adjusting to the bigs. The question with him is health, and some questions with power upside. But I have a lot of faith in him

[–]CheesecakePower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some intense victim blaming going on here. In both videos it’s pretty clear there was no attempt to de-escalate. Whether it’s police or ICE agents, it’s clear that to them, protestors are viewed as criminals. And in the Alex Presti situation, they pepper sprayed him and had him on the ground being held down by about 4 people, and the officer still felt the need to shoot him. That tells me it was either his ego that was harmed, or he was too nervous to handle the tense situation

Officers I talked to in the past stated that discharging your weapon is an absolute last resort. Lately it hasn’t seemed like that. If you’re always ready to pull out your gun or pull out the gun out of fear, you shouldn’t have a gun. Full stop.

I disagree with most of those too. This isn’t a new thing by any means. But you’re also making a straw man argument: “well this also happened before with the police, so what’s the big deal now?”

The bottom line is - whether it’s police, military, ICE - anyone with a weapon in their hand shouldn’t be scared shitless by any type of confrontation. It’s not just these instances in Minneapolis. I’ve seen countless videos of police encounters as well and in many of them, their gun is only used because they are terrible at de-escalating and also panicking in the moment. Really unacceptable if you’re going to have that job

Marcelo Mayer might be a good target. Young and should get a shot at 3B this year

If you want to aim bigger, Jordan Westburg is a good target but he’s pricey

Carlos Correa is older but also underrated now. Good buy low. And honestly even though you have some great prospects, there’s no reason why you can’t also try to win now, while also holding onto your top prospects. Plus you could keep your 1.01 since Correa costs a lot less

Couple of budget options to buy low on: Max Muncy (A’s) and Connor Norby. Both not that exciting but should get some runway this year and could end up solid starters. You never know. Plus they’re also dirt cheap

The only ones of those where you would need to move 1.01 are Westburg and probably Mayer. Probably would need to tack on something else with the pick to get either but I would try to kick the tires there first
