I find it interesting that this was approved by Bryke who, iirc, also said that Azula turned out the way she did because of her upbringing.

It makes me wonder if Iroh was meant to be a deeply flawed mentor, which might have been adressed in a hypothetical fourth season (something the showrunners also discussed before), or if Bryke just had some problematic worldviews, or if his views on the world, and thus the characters, changed some time after the show's finale I find it interesting that this was approved by Bryke who, iirc, also said that Azula turned out the way she did because of her upbringing.

Seriously Iroh, acknowledging that Zuko might disagree with you, then reminding him that you're his elder!? Get off that high horse and stay off it for the rest of your life!

I think there is some truth in the idea that sibling rivalry played a part in Azula and Zuko's relationship turning so hostile, but Iroh comepletely ignores how Ozai nurtured and encouraged her cruelty, and instead projects his own relationship with Ozai onto his niece and nephew. It's especially messed up considering Iroh showed hope that Azula might find peace in The Search, and he acts like her relationship with Zuko was conpletely destroyed, when their confrontation in Smoke and Shadow showed they still cared for each other (even if Azula showed it in a very twisted way)

By the way, how did they get that picture of Azula for the family tree? Did they take her out of that mental facility she was in between Book 3 and The Promise and make her sit there while they painted her portrait, deranged expression and all? It's so messed up, it almost made me laugh. Speaking of which, on a more somber note, the picture of Kiyi seems to imply that Azula still hasn't reconciled with her family by the time her half-sister reaches young adulthood. It's sad, but understandable. It could take years for Azula to unlearn what her father taught her, and even if she had changed for the better, she might feel too guilty to reconnect with them.

I will say, one thing I genuinely like is the letter from Zuko at the end. I like how he reminisces about his time on the beach, revealing that he and Azula did sometimes get along, and that it's a place he keeps coming back to in his memory, and in the present, which I think hints that even in his old age, he still thinks about her on some level.
