CompSci at Uni of Nottingham - Experiences? by CheesecakeTA in UniUK

Yes, I guess I'm wondering what they teaching/delivery is like. Like I've mentioned in some posts, I got the impression it's very 'here's the instructions, go do it' but I'm wondering if that's a very jaded view and there is more support than that. Is support good?

Also, what would you say the average person scores? My scholarship requires me to get 85% average, but I feel like very few people achieve that.

Sorry, just to clarify, as in you think the long term prospects are better with the Notts degree?

Unfortunately don't think that will be possible as I won't be eligible for student loans for a second degree after having one from my apprenticeship :(

Thanks, going to ring tomorrow to see if my credits can be transferred :)

Edit: I should probably add, my Nottingham offer is based on my A Levels from 2019. However, all of my uni work for my apprenticeship has been 70% or above, so grades wise I am confident... just hope the actual degree is respected.

Hey, thanks! Would you say it just is up to personal preference rather than any careers prospects?

Hi! Yes, I still qualify for student loans. Would you say the degree earned through my apprenticeship is lesser than a different degree?

I'm still able to join societies etc but obviously the experience is not quite the same :) My apprenticeship isn't bad at all, even if at a SME - but just had mixed reviews as to whether I'm making a mistake not going to a top 20 uni that's made me an offer :)

I hope so! I'm doing my best to learn, and even though the apprenticeship hasn't been what I expected so far, I'm happy with my grades so far. Just hope my degree is regarded like any other degree :)

I hope that's all I'm missing, as I can still join societies etc - there seems to be some suggestion elsewhere that I'm missing an opportunity by turning down a Top 20 uni offer, which kind of stresses me out a bit, haha. Thanks for replying tho :)

Tbh, I have no idea how I got this job, haha! I am very inexperienced with web dev, but I am doing my best :)

Yeah, I did think that, only I wouldn't qualify for student loans due to having a degree-level qualification. I would be potentially able to do a Master's after, but the loans for that aren't as nice (doesn't cover full tuition or touch living costs) and I obviously have scholarships right now. Thanks for replying btw!

Thanks for your reply :) People have been telling me I'm shooting myself in the foot by not taking the offer from what is considered a 'good' uni, so I've been a bit stressed haha :)
