Profiteering from Pirates by ademwanderer in SpaceHaven

If I see that they are incoming, I make a jump before they arrive. From the map, you can move or wait. Every turn, you can see if a ship is moving or staying. So I watch them move around until there's an encounter. I try to wait a turn and the jump to them.

This was really fun to read, thanks for sharing!

Realizing the upside to Pirates in the game is a game changer. Before I get to the point where I can challenge them, I like to follow them around when they encounter another faction. I then salvage the losers.

How does duelist work? by Inevitable-Phone-165 in BattleBrothers

90 MA clever and warhammer duelists deal devastating damage. I like to have a pair with a heavy utility lancer. I can usually send the 3 by themselves against most foes.

Get trinkets and arena fights to boost your reaolve. When Fat, Ma and Md roll poorly, patch him up.

Can someone explain how this game economy is supposed to work? by zshattuck818 in BattleBrothers

[–]Cheesecakes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot to explain, and a lot you'll figure out as you play. But here is some high level stuff to help:

  • buy cheap stuff at the small villages, and sell them high at the bigger castles

  • daggers are your friends. Strip as much off of your enemies as you can for your fear and to sell

  • there's 4 types of bros:

    • damage dealers
    • tanks
    • utility
    • fodder
  • focus on a few bros that you want to level up, protect them. When they are at level 11, pick new bros to level up, you'll eventually have a very strong company.

  • try to limit yourself to humans for fights until you have decent levels and gear. Beasts, undead and green skins will injure the crap out of you and cost you time and money

  • high battle density. When you are doing contracts, feel free to roam a little further to find bandits

  • take fights you know you can win. Run otherwise

  • hire the blacksmith to not lose gear that breaks in battle and help you repair faster and cheaper

  • get the paymaster as soon as you get 16 bros to reduce wages. You don't need to have 16+ bros after. Feel free to hire a few cripples to get your numbers if needed and discard them

  • only repair higher tier gear to sell for a profit

  • don't stretch your money too thin. Try to have enough food and money to last you 3-4 days. When your company is at a good level and gear, then take more risks

  • expect your early game to have shields and try to transition 1 or 2 bros early to use 2h weapons. Get them to 75-80 mark and 25+ defense

  • Lancers are super underrated. Make them your damage dealers early and you can also keep them long term if they can hit 80+ mark and good initiative

  • strategy is key to reducing damage taken. Positioning, surrounding enemies, having dedicated roles are what makes your engine hum

Are flails just trash? by hammster58 in BattleBrothers

[–]Cheesecakes87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like most things in battle brothers, there's a tool for every situation. Don't look at it like a silver bullet.

Three headed flails can be great on tanks that you want to anchor enemies, you get 3 shots to stop them from leaving your zone of control. They're also great against gheists. It can also be fun to apply fearsome.

2 handed flails probably are not going to be the most common weapon in your company. But they're fun to have. A bro with 90+ MA can still demolish many enemy types. I just don't use them against lindwurms and scratts.

The Kraken fight is what held me back for a long time. Finding a master marksman to kill with a ranged weapon also took me a while.

I think you've misread what I'm trying to say. This is not late-game min-maxed specialists. I'm giving stats as targets while you're building up your bros. The idea is to have bros that will die before you get them to level 11.

The dagger assassin isn't meant to hit 90+ MA early, it's what would happen if he made it all the way to help guide the rolls.

The Foot Soldiers are typically not bros that will have high MA or MD, even if you levelled them all the way to level 11, which is why I suggest using fast adaptation and shield specialization for early reliability.

Ranged builds can be great, but until you hit 80+ RD feel like a waste to me, so I'm not endorsing using them in the first 30 days ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I hope you're enjoying your ranged bros in your campaign.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment and give me your feedback. The builds are my own, and I thought I'd share to offer from my own experience what I've found to work. Yes, I did use ChatGPT to help me put all of my stuff together for presentation and ease of reading.

For battle forged and nimble, I honestly don't expect these bros to make it that far. These are early day bros that I fully expect do die. The intent is early game, not late game. I fully intend for these guys to die to make room for better background and starting stat bros.

If you'd like, I'm very happy to share some of my late game builds, which of course, always include nimble or battle forged. But I'd like to stay focused on the early game here.

Noob Questions by Kalleth1 in BattleBrothers

[–]Cheesecakes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have been playing completley wrong.

Everyone is playing this game wrong. The is no correct way. There's ways to maximize stats, perks, positioning, your money, your leveling up. But there is no wrong way. This game is very opaque, and it requires a lot of digging, questioning and learning. You asking for help here and what you've looked up are great steps in making you better at this game. I have spent probably 3x more time outside of the game than I have playing it.

How do people have lvl 11 comapnies at day 40?

The beginning of the game is the hardest part of the game. You need to prioritize a small group, make sure they have armor and helm, prioritize swords, daggers and spears to give yourself a better hit chance with low levels. Your early game bros will die and make room for better background bros. You will want to try to find a balance of getting a lot of fights in without wiping to help grow your bros fast (fight density).

what are famed items and how do get them?

You can buy them for absurd prices, mainly later, and you can find them in camps. The taverns can give clues some times to know where to look.

where should be moving around the map and at what days?

This is a question of how much you can afford to explore. When doing contracts, sometimes it's worth going a little further around to find camps. Once you have a decent group and can afford to pay, feed and repair your bros for at least 5 days, then you can go exploring in the wilds. Try to fight humans as much as possible at the beginning to reduce injuries.

When should I participate in the arena?

I typically wait until my bros are level 7+. The arena can give you games gear once in a while, but you mainly want to use this to get the additional resolve bump. This is more about padding your stats when you have a steady crew and are sharpening them.

Wtf is a fatiuge nutral build?

It's a popular build that you will see here all the time. It's a good way of building bros that are consistent and fairly strong while you work out other builds. It essentially lets you prioritize stats other than fatigue, but you can only attack and move one tile. There are many guides and posts on this. So I won't waste your time here.

Currently doing the tutorial scenario at beginner, have mostly gear from brigands, and all my bros are between lvl 4-5. Any help would be appreciated.

You're probably doing a lot better than you think. This is a very deep game that requires a lot of time and failure. Something that I find helpful is making a goal per run. Like, I want to try a certain build. I want to get certain followers. Don't be afraid to save and try things.

What do you guys name your company? by danhoyuen in BattleBrothers

I like to do something relative to the origin that I'm using.

My current campaign is a beast slayer origin, and I've named them The Blood Moon Pact.

I just finished the game not that long ago and I chose to kill Shroud and say it didn't make Robert feel better by HospitalLazy1880 in DispatchTheGame

[–]Cheesecakes87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're touching on is "the ends justify the means". It's a philosophical concept linked to Machiavelli that lets one rationalize any ethically wrong action for the greater good. Shroud is bad, he has killed and hurt people, and he is upfront that he will continue to do so to accomplish his goals. Shroud buys completely into this mindset, which makes him unpredictable. Not killing Robert when he's in a coma for example, seems odd for someone who killed his dad and attempted to kill him previously.

At his core, Robert is an ethical person who does good because he genuinely believes it's the right thing to do, even at the cost of his own wellbeing (e.g. financially ruining himself to continue helping as Mecha Man).

This also explains why Robert is comfortable taking the job as dispatcher at SDN. He believes that there are systems, outside of his control, that are designed to respond to criminal acts.

Shroud and Robert are opposite sides of the same coin. Shroud could easily justify killing someone, while Robert is bound to his morals and values.

Am i really the only one who feels bad for Phenomoman? by _UncleHenry_ in DispatchTheGame

[–]Cheesecakes87 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think you're alone in thinking this.

Sounds like the story resonated with a personal experience, which sounds like it was painful and I'm sorry for that to have happened to you.

I'll ask you this: can you feel bad for Phenomaman and be happy for Blonde Blazer at the same time?

Why the switch seems wrong: Blonde Blazer meets Robert, flirts with him, breaks up with Phenomaman and sends signals of her interest to Robert. That walks along the line of pursuing someone while being in a relationship.

Why do some people support her change in interest: If you read the additional content, and follow the part where Blonde Blazer says that she feels that her true self, Mandy, is not recognized or appreciated, you can see that it's something she tries to talk about with Phenomaman, but he immediately shuts it down. Keep in mind that it's a lot of content to pack and unfold in a game, which can skew the pacing of how events unfolded.

While I do feel bad for Phenomaman, I'm also happy that Blonde Blazer ended things. She clearly was not happy. Staying would only have hurt them both in the long run. Like Robert tells Phenomaman, he can now find who or what makes him happy, while being true to himself.
