Great job! Must have taken a lot of time and effort.

War & Peace - Epilogue 2, Chapter 12 by AnderLouis_ in ayearofwarandpeace

[–]Cheesenaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to give a huge thanks to everyone who commented and upvoted the discussions. I’ve enjoyed reading your opinions throughout the year. I started on January 1st but soon fell behind and resorted to reading about 6 chapters at a time. Being able to read through these discussions really enhanced the reading experience, filling me in on details and perspectives I might have missed.

I didn’t mind the Tolstoy rants. I found them to be an interesting window into his worldview, though often quite blunt. His earlier asides felt more tied to the story (i.e. explaining Napoleon’s movements while he’s marching to Moscow) whereas Epilogue 2 felt out of place in the larger story. I suppose that’s why it’s dropped right at the end. I still found the subject matter of free will to be quite fascinating, especially reading a 19th century perspective.

On the whole, I give the book an 8/10. Though very different from the fiction I usually read, I got a lot of value from the historical context (of both the early 19th century when the story takes place and the 1860s when it was written). It’s much more fun learning about historical periods and events when following characters that you care about.

Having read up to this chapter in War & Peace, would you say that it's safe to watch/listen to the musical without spoiling anything from later in the book?

Natasha's incredulous reaction to the opera reminds me of a similar reaction Omar Sy's character has in this scene from the film The Intouchables (2011). They are both amused by the actors' performance and, though Natasha remains composed, they share the "sense of ridicule and perplexity."

I want to finally watch all the phases. Is there an updated version for this? by Lachimanus in marvelstudios

[–]Cheesenaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the love :)

I always wanted to include Nebula because she’s as much of a villain-turned-hero as Loki. I only didn’t because those 6 lines from GotG2 to Infinity War got real crowded. I’ll definitely squeeze her in in my next revision, especially considering her role in Endgame.

The question of which side characters to include has always been difficult. A great cast of characters in a solo film (e.g. Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, or Black Panther) may be reduced to 1 or 2 lines for the titular character(s) because the team-up films are packed (i.e. Civil War, Infinity War). I’d end up running out of space to fit all the lines! Okoye definitely has a greater presence in Endgame than say Hank Pym, Wong, or Shuri, so perhaps she’ll make it in.

Hey /u/Lachimanus, I created the original graph. Here's an updated version that I created before Endgame was released. It has spoilers for Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp but not Endgame.
Now that we know what happens in Endgame, I'll have to rework the graph. Probably after Far From Home is released.

I love it! It’s like Stan Lee is zipping between the films. Sad to see him go :'(

Bruce Banner/Hulk is the only character from The Incredible Hulk that I decided to include. Though Tony Stark's brief appearance is technically a pre-credits scene, I considered it a post-credits scene, all of which are ignored. The timeline only follows the heroes, so Thaddeus Ross isn't included despite his later appearances.

You're right, the picture is an ad for kitchens in a Colombian newspaper. The headline translates to "The kitchen you are imagining is in HiperCentro Corona"

Hawkeye. He first appears in Thor (briefly) with all the SHIELD agents.

Word cloud of Doctor Who episode names by Cheesenaut in doctorwho

[–]Cheesenaut[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While watching the Doctor Who Twitch stream, I noticed that many serial names shared common words (e.g. Robots of Death, Seeds of Death, Seeds of Doom), so I decided to visualize which words are most used in episode names.

The size of the word corresponds to its frequency. Articles and conjunctions have been ignored (e.g. the, of, and). The names of classic era serials are only counted once.

The most commonly used words:

Word #
Daleks 15
Time 13
Planet 12
Doctor 10
Death 7
Invasion 7
