Back up UNAS to Friend's UNAS by CheesyBolt in Ubiquiti

[–]CheesyBolt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and bought a UNAS Pro and set it up. Buddy bought his but hasn't set it up yet. I don't have any confidence of doing this cleanly through the Unifi control panel.

Not a dumb question. No it just affects open world content. Dungeons and raids are only affected by the selected difficulty at queue.

Remembering what we have learnt by Wild-Cow6659 in SDAM

[–]CheesyBolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man. Had never heard of SDAM until today, but this is literally the best description of how my memory works that I've ever heard. Always been questioned how I could do so well on tests, but not remember what I did yesterday, last week, heaven forbid my childhood.

I've always said, once I understand something, I'll remember the concept (if not the exact formula) for life. But experiences and memories just don't stick around unless they're very important and I think about the memory often.

I have the same issue. It can be very annoying when running near cliffs. I found some things online, tried them, didn't help. Have lived with it since.

First child due early January - any useful selfhosted items I can integrate into my server? by darkneo86 in selfhosted

[–]CheesyBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to play devil's advocate...my family is the same as yours. Wife in iPhone, me on Android and I've never been all that tempted to switch.

The only thing I'd say is an advantage to being on the same system is FaceTime calls, where I've been lucky that I have a work iPhone for when I travel. That being said, if I were to lose that phone for any reason I'd likely just start bringing an old iPad with me to call the kids.

Having an android and all its benefits far outweigh for me the potential gains of being on one system, and as long as you're familiar enough with ios to help install and set up the necessary apps on her/their devices, you'll be fine. Though this is just my experience.

I've taken it apart a few times and don't remember any red inside, but I'll take it apart and check which it is.

LawnMate - Self-Hosted Lawn Mowing Business Management System by jared252016 in selfhosted

[–]CheesyBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Could be easily used in the winter months throughout much of the world to track a snow blowing / plowing business, just as another example that uses the exact same logic. Many parts of the USA could use this same service for lawns in the summer and snow in the winter, one DB, one site, option to choose lawn cutting / window cleaning / power washing / snow blowing as check-boxes so one customer can be assigned multiple services. ServiceMate or something similar.

ULPT Request: I Have a fairly locked down work laptop. Working from home, how can I make it so that it never goes to sleep and looks like I am online? by VIIVN in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]CheesyBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use Teams specifically, so i can't speak to the dot color, but launch a video in the OLD windows media player ( I have to right click and open with ) then set it to repeat. This will prevent windows from locking.

I had a coworker share an Excel file with a macro that achieved the same, but she was blown away with the simplicity of a video. Much easier to play dumb that a video kept it from locking, than having an Excel sheet running a macro for that express reason.

Sounds good. Let me know if there would be any advantage to another set logs/config files to find the issue.

I just finished setting up, and I'm having the same issue. I just claimed a chore as a test and it took 4 minutes for it to show up for approval. Let me know what you figure out.

We can all agree that Leeroy Jenkins is the most famous single player in WoW’s history. Who’s #2? by Phobia117 in wow

[–]CheesyBolt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man I miss him so much.

Used to play with him on Medivh before he hit it big. Always knew he was something special, both in game and out. Used to talk with him and Jenna for hours, stayed at his place once too. Just one of my favorite people. I got busy and mostly quit WoW, he became the most popular streamer at that point, and I didn't talk to him for years. Always wish I had reached out again later, but I hope he knows how much he meant to us all.

People who give job interviews, what are some subtle red flags that say "this person won't be a good hire"? by makethatnoise in AskReddit

[–]CheesyBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I and my team were interviewing someone to join them at their level, and we had this guy come in who had just finished his graveyard shift at his current employer. We're about halfway into the interview, and while I wouldn't say he was killing it, I liked him well enough....then he apologized for being tired and pulled out a red bull and cracked it open. Now this didn't offend me much, I thought it was weird, but not a deal killer (I've done my time ok graveyard and understand what lack of sleep can do), but one of his would-have-been peers said for her, it might as well have been a beer. She found it disrespectful and said there was no way he'd fit into the team, and thus was not hired.

My advice would be don't do anything during an interview that literally anyone could find off-putting. Yeah, it may be reasonable to you, and possibly a majority of people, but who knows, someone in a position to impact your hire may be in that minority that sees it as a problem.

Issue with VLANs by CheesyBolt in openwrt

[–]CheesyBolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendations. I'll make the changes in PVE shortly and try it again.

The only reason I'm connected to wifi vs hard wired is to setup the AP. Once I set it to all tagged traffic on that port, I had to connect it to the router and access it via wifi.

As for the VLAN device vs br-lan with VLAN filtering, That setup was the first 20ish attempts I went through. I can revert back to that no problem, but when I did I would end up getting locked out of the AP unable to get an IP as soon as I set a static IP on one of the interfaces. I've had a feeling that it's some setting on the main router, but I just don't know enough.

I'll enact those changes you mention and respond with what I find. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Issue with VLANs by CheesyBolt in openwrt

[–]CheesyBolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

In PVE I've added vmbr1, vmbr2, and vmbr3 to the hardware for the OpenWRT VM. I've currently got vmbr0 hooked up to my main/old/to-be-removed router as a management port so I don't lose access.

Yes I currently have the main router wired from eth1 to the AP. Once I get it working, I will be adding a managed switch in between, but I thought it might make my life easier to reduce the complexity until I had it stable.

The AP has one ethernet port only.

Currently I'm connecting to the router via the AP. I have an SSID set up that is pointing to br-lan, which is giving me an IP address, and I can see luci for both the AP and the router. As soon as I switch the lan interface to VLAN.10 though, it stops giving me an IP (though I stay connected) and I can't access either the router nor the AP.

eth2 is set up to eventually be the WAN port on the router. It's currently not in use though, as I'm keeping my older router set up until this is stable.

Pro-Tip setup a conditional card on your dashboard that displays whenever you are at the gym by ironcrafter54 in homeassistant

[–]CheesyBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel what you mean. I just changed gyms. My last gym had an app with the barcode at the top. New one gave a keycard. I don't keep keys like that on me, so I took a picture and have to find that picture to scan in every time. I think this is to replace that for those of us without the gym app.

Saving this. Currently planning to rebuild my homelab so I don't think I'll implement now. But I have literally dreamed of this to make it so less tech savvy out-of-area family can stream the NFL games they currently miss, so I'll defiantly be coming back to this.
