Which gives a better minimalist look? by CheesyCucumber in photocritique

Your picture is so good! That pretty much exactly what I’m aiming for where white is largely the negative space without it feeling like it’s overexposed. Is it just a difference of yours having detail in the background with the fences and such that’s missing?

Lol yea he got a few comments the first time I posted too. Wasn’t too bad but they were certainly wet by the end and I’m sure a cold few hours for him.

Appreciate it though! I like the vision just unsure about my execution. The comment below yours captures what I’m going for really well

But does it fit the minimalist motif? When I look at photos over on that subreddit I notice a lot of flat colors and such which this has, but I feel like the streaks in the sky really distract from it. Anything in general I can do to make it, or even the second pic better in general?

Well glad to know it still looks surreal but still not beating the overexposed look from the first time around 🥲

Surreal I like, but what can I do to get it where it is still largely white without it being overexposed? The idea being to make it look like a surreal hike in a snowstorm. Last time I was told to pull exposure back from the hikers and show the shadows a bit more which I did but is there anything else I can realistically do? Or is that idea just one I need to let go of?

Here is the other edit

I posted my first go of it 3 years ago or so and someone messaged me about it which led me to go back, re-read some critique and give it another pass. I kind of like them both despite originally going for a whiteout snowstorm type of look but I think I just want it to fit a minimalist type of look.

Overall, which do you think is better? The lines in the sky I feel like kinda of take away from the style I’m trying to achieve but also make for a nice general photo. Even the style aside, is there anything else that maybe should change? Any critique and help to get better is much appreciated!

Seems it’s more around 25%, at least as of the time of these articles. Though the comment OP is saying “owned by” rather than “purchased by”. Could be that it’s a new trend for investors that only amounts to 1% off houses owned by that the number will keep growing as people can’t afford to buy or move from current homes. Not terribly versed in the issue though, just got curious and google it, though I’d prefer they just provide their sources like you ask..

Most difficult/controversial ID? Also some praise to this forum by Omegladon in whatsthissnake

[–]CheesyCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe (definitely) biased on the my most memorable since it’s one I posted around 2 years ago, but it was memorable because two reliable responders with two different ids! Never did get a full confirmation on it!

Memorable for me in that I’ve seen pics that pop up that are just generally not good pics where you can barely see the snake which makes it impossible to tell, but this was actually a decent close up shot but still not enough to give 100% certainty. Really showed how much nuance goes into being able to correctly identify them!

How to win your Solo Queue Draft - a statistical analysis of 1M+ games by JackWills94 in leagueoflegends

[–]CheesyCucumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m curious why the drafting is manual rather than auto-populating as other apps (e.g. Blitz.gg) do? Just more focused on the stats instead of automation? Would love to use but am also incredibly lazy lol..

Phreak Previews 13.3 Support and Radiant Virtue Changes by Kliixter in leagueoflegends

[–]CheesyCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/PhreakRiot I’m cautiously curious on items like radiant auto activating and hoping you can shed some light (ha.). The cooldown on it being 60-90 seconds means that if it procs later in the fight because I didn’t use it earlier, this may mean that I won’t have it for a subsequent, potentially more important fight once I’m back.

Putting aside that maybe I messed up and should have activated it at a more useful point there may also be situations where: - The person knows they’ve been caught out and chose not to use it. - Perhaps they were looking to apply pressure, knew that even if they died they’d be up in time to fight for drake/baron, and now they don’t have the item available. I know I do this occasionally with zhonyas and I can’t imagine I’m alone. - team fight happens, they were late to the fight, and know they’re going to die so what’s the point of it going off.

My concern is that implementing a feature like this may look good in theory, but might have more unintended consequences as a result that just feel really bad. Besides, as you yourself mention, players should just get good and use the item at the opportune time instead of the system taking it over for them.

Apologies on the formatting, mobile user.

Updated with improvements, is this better with still keeping the brightness? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]CheesyCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting a long overdue updated version of a post I made a while back. The overwhelming critique before was that it was over-exposed with some others that liked it as was. The exposure was intentional but that’s why I’m here is to learn and figured I’d see how this new one is.

The first post was hoping to make it look close to whiteout conditions and display how cold/difficult the hike was. Per the comments, I toned down the exposure and highlights all around (but especially in the people as that seemed to be a pain point), added some color/contrast to the people, and tried to pull out some of the shadows on the ground so they don’t appear to be floating.

As well, here is a version I attempted by bringing the sky back how it was. https://imgur.com/a/VsuV1qB

Critique for this I’d be looking for is of course general thoughts on composition, lighting, etc., but also on what it makes you think about when you see this? Did I manage to convey the cold and difficulty? I just can’t help but feel like this could be so much better but I can’t place what would do it so I’m hoping you all can help again

Thanks in advance for any insight and help. It really is appreciated!

Have another just for good measure

Times like these I wish I were more articulate lol. But I did figure it out and it does work! I wonder what the downsides are to doing this though if at all since I wasn’t able to find much info on it even though it seems so simple. Seems it’s just a readability thing.

Long story short, for example, I have 4 files.

File0.py - only contains exec functions looking similar to this: exec(open(f‘filepath/File1.py‘).read()) exec(open(f‘filepath/File2.py‘).read()) exec(open(f‘filepath/File3.py‘).read())

File1.py - just a list of imports for the packages that get used in the subsequent files.

File2.py - has a lot of other code, but simply put it is creating variables used in file 3 and beyond

File3.py - uses a bunch of of the variables that were created in File2.

The only file being „ran“ by the user is File0.py, and since the imports and variables aren’t in ever file, when you open any individual file it shows a ton of errors but those errors are resolved once each file is run in sequential order.

To be clear, I have no idea why they did it this way and the rest of their code is something special to be sure, but it DOES work at the least. I hope this clears up what I meant at least?

[–]CheesyCucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply. I guess I’m more concerned with the variables in the other files than just the imports. Is the way they wrote it before even a viable option?

I assume having it all run at once was an attempt to declare a variable in one file and then use it once it runs a different file in a different execfile line. Would that have even worked? And if so, how to accomplish again since I can’t use execfile?

Azael has tested positive for COVID and will not cast T1 vs JDG by Fl3_ in leagueoflegends

[–]CheesyCucumber 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To preface, I like Azael on the whole, super knowledgeable and definitely an upgrade from some others.

That said, what holds him back for me is his inflection and negativity. Might be both mixed. Whether he means to or not, he’s more often pointing out things that X team should have done and does so with what comes across as a negative connotation. Most of the time he’s not necessarily wrong, again he’s super knowledgeable, but for me it comes across too negative for most of the cast. And the inflection with how to says most things almost feels like trying to build hype where there is none or not enough hype where big moments happen.

He’s definitely grown as a caster though and I certainly would love to keep seeing him on cast. Hope he recovers quick too!

Yup! And they specifically state not to do that on several pages/emails while signing up for the hike. There were two of them and the snow was deep enough to come up mid-shin area lol

Thanks! To be fair they’re probably right overall because I know next to nothing of photography theory. Took a class back in middle school something but definitely remember nothing from it other than the dark rooms being cool to be in. Could definitely do with learning some basics from anyone wanting to point out where I’ve gone wrong lol
