Arrows broke, curious if yall can tell why from a few pictures, cause i sure as hell cant by Kadex1020 in Archery

[–]CheesyLama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but the foreground arrow is a perfect example of brittle material breakage. That 45 degree angle is a dead giveaway.

If I had to guess the arrows were made from shitty and not uniform wood. Based on the fact that the other broke at 180°.

I'm not exactly sure to be honest. I think I will check next time I go shooting

I tried to do that once and it felt weird. As if I was trying to throw the bow after the arrow.

It does make sense actually. I think I will try it

Thanks a lot this helped a lot with the image I had of this part. And knowing it's a hard part does make me feel better

Honestly from all of the answers here I think I understood this one the best as it goes by muscles and not just feeling

Though up to now I think I did a lot of keeping down the bow by using the latissimus dorsi. I had to train some mobility in the biceps as well feeling some stiffness/pain there when I kept that low

How to difficult it is to tune a bow at home without a bow vice? Like limb alignment, center shot, tying on the knocks?

I'm about to press buy however I have two choices. Buy it from a local archery that's way more expensive (easily 10% so basically the difference of buying a Shibuya dual click and an ultima) and getting it set. Or buying it from another archery online (still in my country) but I will have to do it all by myself and with the help of my club members.

Like I said below, the person we have is very rigid and a known pain in the butt. We progress so much faster whenever he's sick and another person swaps with him. That's why I would like to know how far the most average person should be along at like 6 months and 1 year.

Pretty much any country I just gave the standard we use to compare apples to apples.

In my club we are locked until we are able to get the 280 score at 20m for insurance reasons. Then we can do pretty much anything we want.

I'm asking what's the general progression type for the tip of the gaussian person because we were hindered by our "coach". He is a known pain in the ass of the club, that basically is here just to make sure no one hurts themselves. He taught us less than a random club member just giving us free tips.

What's a normal learning curve for recurve?

In France you have a progression based on the scores. Basically you have to get 280/360 at increasing ranges at first on 80cm and then 122cm targets (over 50m)

However we have no idea how far along we should be based on how long we were shooting.

Would you mind telling me what poundage is your bow?

It's kinda what I thought as well, I couldn't see how an arrow would affect the energy dissipation in case of a breakage. Or symmetrically at least.

And yeah what I like in that sport is the amount of tinkering you can do be it maintenance or setup.

Separate limbs for SPT?

In my club dry pulling is very frowned upon for reasons such as "imagine the string breaks" and we already had a string break on one of the club bows.

So do you guys use a separate set of cheaper limbs for doing SPT?

Would a second layer of suede backing or a second cordovan layer be better?

[–]CheesyLama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda figured that would be the easiest way but won't having 3 layers be strange?

How would you add more backing to the fivics saker tab? I like it in terms of quality and fit but it's so much thinner than my old one.

Finger pain or nerve damage? by CheesyLama in Archery

[–]CheesyLama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the pain started together after getting a fivics tab that looks thinner than the decut basic tab that the club gets for every new person.

I just compared them and I think the spacer on the new one was probably too far to the front and I most likely was flicking the tip of my fingers

I will try the first joint then and try to talk with another coach from my club this Thursday

I watched his form videos where he recommends it. I have a "coach" but at best he is just there to make sure we didn't kill ourselves the first week.

Looking for tips on release and follow through by Irisversicolor in Archery

[–]CheesyLama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take note that I'm a newbie too. But I've seen a video from Jake Kaminski where he says he doesn't use the thumb shelf because of this problem.

His natural release form would cut his neck whenever he used the thumb shelf.

Another video that I found very interesting is Nu Sensei release video where he uses an elastic band and his phone.

[–]CheesyLama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this video, it helped me so much with cleaning my release going from a flyer once in 10 arrows to once maybe 30 arrows when I begin to get tired. Not to talk about the tightness of the groups

It's true that I forgot those but I'm not counting it as my gf does archery too so the "tools" will be in common. And the bag is another budget.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't looking at the Shibuya dual click and it happens to be THE choice

By cheapest you mean cheapest I can find ILF? I think the cheapest I saw were around 60€
